Return of Good Eats

Will the Good Eats serial return? Everything I know about cooking, I learned from watching Good Eats. Unlike other cooking show hosts, Alton Brown explains in detail the why, what and how something is done; not just a collection of recipes. That I can get from any of thousands of cookbooks and magazines. Alton Brown has been my mentor. Through him, I have been able to look beyond just plain old cooking and come up with new and original recipes. I no longer go to restaurants as I can prepare what I like at home. I wish he would return, as his show was an important source of cooking information. I think his later shows like "cutthroat kitchen" is a waste of his talent.

I also gained a lot of culinary knowledge watching 'Good Eats,' although I really haven't done much cooking. I've made the Pork Wellington a couple of times, and it turned out well.

His show was simply more entertaining than the standard 'this is what I'm going to make, this is me making it, this is what it looks like when it's made' cooking shows. Alton showed the viewers the 'hows,' 'whys,' and 'whos' of cooking, as well as the 'whats.'

I even enjoyed the hokey special effects and the cornball skits, the characters like Sid the Food Agent and sister Martha (but I did not like the chili episode; his cowboy routine got old, fast).

My friends and relatives have come to expect (and possibly dread) conversations about food, because they know I'll come out with "Alton says..."

He's a good TV host, but I'm with you: I'd like to see him back in the kitchen, or even doing regional food miniseries again.

"You may have come on no bicycle, but that does not say that you know everything."

Most of what I learned, I learned from AB. It was only possible for me to figure stuff out on my own because AB gave me the courage to try.

I wish he'd do more. Two a year: one healthy thing, one not-so-healthy. He did some healthy stuff on GE, but I want more.

Maybe "Healthy Eats" instead of good. :)
