6 soldiers injure themselves, but only 5 are court-martialed?

When they're showing the scenes of the soldiers injuring themselves, Angel (the Corsican) and another soldier shoot each other's hands.
Are we to assume that the other soldier died? Or that he was court martialed too, but just wasn't important to the movie's plot? The fact that he was never mentioned bugged me a bit.

Watch the scene bsck again. I didn't notice it the first time, but it looks like Ange mistakenly shoots the other soldier in the head.

It kind of looks like that, but it also kind of looks like one of the guys moves his hand at the last second, like he chickens out. I couldn't tell which was which, so I don't know if this was Ange or not.

Angel shot him in the face. I've watched that scene so many times through multiple viewings. I think it serves to speak with his character being a liar/coward/cheat. He certainly probably didn't mean to shoot him, but when the song stops, he looks away in fear and when he does that, the gun shifts and he shoots his fellow soldier in the face. I think you could make a case that he did it intentionally to avoid being caught, but I don't really think he meant to kill him.
