How did Marion Cotillard not even get nominated for an Oscar?

I mean... she even made Audrey Tautou look pale next to her! One of the finest performances by an actress in a supporting role I've seen.

While I absolutly agree that Cotillard deserves much more recognition I dont think we can in any way marginalize the performance of Audrey Tautou. I have only begun to venture into French films in the last two weeks and have since found my anti-french prejudice in films (I felt they overused color to an obscene amount) shriveling after the discovery of director Jean-Pierre Juenet & breathtaking French acresses like Audry Tautou, Marion Cotillard and Cecil De France. They are all fantastic and if you are looking for evidence of this, see the films L'Auberge Espagnole and its sequel Russian Dolls.

Cecil de France is actually Belgian by nationality, but being French speaking, her cultural background is as much French as anyone from the north of France.

Not a big point and very understandable. In a way it's even a compliment :)

And yes, she is an absolute pleasure to behold. Think of Hereafter or Quand j'etais chanteur ...

Audrey Tautou meant to look pale in this film :p

but foolishness aside, I agree that Cotillard sure pulled it off it grace.

I agree! she totally overshadowed Audrey Tautou in it and should have been nominated for an Oscar! but at least she won the César for this film and won the Oscar years later for another great performance in La Vie en Rose!
