bruise?

Near the very end of the film they show a big bruise on Nora's belly. Does anyone know what it was from or what it's supposed to mean?

reply

It's where Nora hid her father's literary 'confession,'the incendiary content of which metaphorically seared her flesh.

reply

I merely thought it was a bruise she was inflicted by her father when she killed him.

reply

Could it also be her father's wish coming true? Could she have contracted a similar disease? The reason she asked Ismael to adopt Elias is b/c she was afraid that she would die.

reply

Maybe that is the most credible reason since she also says at the end that both Ismael and Elias will outlive her.

reply

I just finished watching this movie and I believe the bruise was from where she put the pages of the diary that she ripped out. She used a drug overdose to kill her father, that would not have given her a bruise. It's possible that her son and Ismael will outlive her because a) her son is younger and b) because they are both "better" persons than she so their memories will outlive hers.

reply

I don't think it's a bruise. Literally speaking, it's the ink from the paper she hid behind her waistband. The reason she's physically sore at night is because she had to keep this big, thick letter there all day.

Of course, one can also interpret this figuratively as the searing content of the letter "burning" itself onto her.
