available to buy?

Hi, does anyone know where I could order a copy of this doco on the net? Either VHS or DVD, doesnt really matter. I saw it on TV on April fools day, loved it for how it had me going for most of the movie. Cracked me up when they showed those guys who were supposedly shooting the men who knew the truth about the moon landing. I'd really like to own this one.

Thanks
Steve

That is right: IT IS FAKE,
The so-called director admitted so
People in the documentary also thought it was a nice prank - but they weren’t told that the documentary would be posted as a real one.

Think about it: would Donald Rumsfeld ever admit anything that could be used against him self: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
If you watch the so-called "documentary" you will see that the answers could be placed on different questions....
And in the end it is revealed: they all had scripts, therefore it is fake: IT IS SCIENCE FICTION. No more, no less

It should never have been published, unless they more accurately said that it was a fake documentary, in the end. This is quite misunderstandable.

Don’t watch this fake and flawed and bad documentary - you wont get smarter of it, more of the opposite, I will say

DONT WATCH it.

Watch Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 instead.

IT IS FAKE,
FAKE,FAKE,FAKE,FAKE,FAKE,FAKE,FAKE,FAKE,FAKE

why didnt you guys read the end credits??

it is a BIG parody.

What's your agendum here?

Spinal Tap didn't mention beforehand that it was a fake, mock documentary. I don't see people rambling about it like you do in this film's case. Then again, your message history seems to be limited to films that deal exclusively with 9/11, Bush etc - just a coincidence?

I found this film very funny and seeing Kubrick's family and important people of US government playing along made this film very unique. The basic idea of having Stanley Kubrick film a fake moon landing and especially the hunt for CIA agents had me laughing in tears.

Anyway, I really saw no political point made in this film. It was just a mockumentary. Viewer's were taken to a fake ride and some people can laugh at themselves, others can't.

reply

It is a mockumentary, yes.

but that was NOT revealed in all the countries in which it was revealed..... and that is quite enraging, when you beleive in the documentary, and way later beleive that it is true, when it is not,

look at the people who have written about it: some of them beleives that the documentarie is reel........ what do you have to say about that???????????

reply

I have always laughed at the silly disclaimers at the end of the movies that tell the audience that: "similarities to any persons, living or dead, are purely coincidental."

Now I know who the disclaimer is written for.
Apparently people would be furious if films didn't declare so...

By the way, the film "Fargo" has a disclaimer in the beginning that it is based on a true story. It is NOT, yet people didn't go crazy about it.

As others have stated in these boards, the Operation Lune was an interesting sociological test - some people believe anything if it's on tv or in a form of a documentary.

reply

It's pretty clear if you watch the end credits that it's fake--one guy asks for a script, and the camp vaudeville music would hardly be fitting for the end of such a shocking documentary.

reply

Of course it's fake! What's your point? It would take a total idiot to believe this documentary is real. It's so absurd! Anyone with with half a brain would be in on the joke 1/3 of the way through.

For Chrissake! The "CIA director" can't even speak English! And all the clips of the "real" people (Rumsfeld, Kissinger, ect.) are CLEARY taken out of context. The Rabbi says the CIA agents forced the Jewish fugitive to tailor their suits before they killed him!!!

I loved it! I thought it was very cleverly done. The whole point of the film is to teach the viewer to be critical and to not automatically take everything the TV tell to be the gospel truth.

I find it hard to believe that anyone is foolish enough to think the events depicted in this film are real.

reply

"The Rabbi says the CIA agents forced the Jewish fugitive to tailor their suits before they killed him!!! "

I loved that guy's outtake in the end. The Hasidic / acidic Jew pun. 'That joke doesn't work in Hebrew.' With all the massive inaccuracies in the movie, that bugged him.

reply

it is at this point that I was 100% sure this was all a joke. I had suspicions up to here, but this confirmed it. I laughed out loud at the joke AND at the fact that I had been had! good stuff!

Answering the OP:

it can be seen on YouTube in english as Dark Side of the Moon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-6G8N-fwHc

or in some other language versions. The original french title was Operation Lune, german: Kubrick und der Man im Mond, spanish: Operación Luna

try the "international" title that's listed on the main imdb page for this film. iirc that's what it went under when it ran on sbs.

reply

the doc is still fake - people should know that

reply

Are you people serious? You really think this movie needs a disclaimer to know that it's fake?

I once also believed that the Americans did not land on the moon.

Partly because of this documentary.

Much footage from the moon can very well be fake. That is because the could not film there, supposedly, because there was too hot and too cold.

And then there is the thing about the wind on the flag.....

But then there is the big problem: The Astronauts took home tonnes of rocks from the moon - TONNES. And the rocks ARE FROM THE MOON. The rocks have been spread around the world to all countries to further science. And there are for a fact from the moon, all laboratories from around the world has confirmed it: The isotopes of the basic elements of the rock could never have come from earth - only the moon.

How do all you crack-put-theorists explain that?

How come that many professors and astronomers from around all believe that USA did go to the moon??? Can you explain that (the only ones who disbelieve all this are all out off a job, and needs money)

reply

The question ist NOT if the USA landed on the moon - the movie doesn't deal with this. It only takes this question as an exmaple how easy you can be manipulated. It's a great movie - maybe one of the best I`ve ever seen.

reply

It is very possible that the could not film in such extreme conditions so they created images to go along with that. There is also much data stating the rocks (although rare)can be found on certain parts of the earth. Then again, who the F&ck can you believe.......
