It says 'Written by Sean Astin'- what was there to write?

Why does it say Written by Sean Astin? they probably just turned up on the day and made it up. Theer was no dialogue in the whole film aswell, so what was there to write?

Before the invention of sound film, there were screenwriters. the writer has to do a lot more than come up with dialogue -- they create the entire story.
They couldn't just come up with this movie on the spot -- it's a lot more complicated than that. They had to know what equiptment they were using, like the cameras and the bus, they had to know what actors they needed so what the characters were, what sequence they were going to shoot in, what the storyline was. Sean Astin, besides directing, did quite a lot!

It was totally sharky! Complete!

Well I bet the screenplay was about 1 page long

Script was three pages long and took 25mins to write

daleynixon, you sound like an *beep* acting like writing a script is so easy. It's not. Like somebody else said earlier, the writer not only creates the dialogue, but the actions and events that take place.

There is blocking. The majority of what I write is not dialogue, it's actions (but I'm not a screenwriter, I'm a fiction writer). That's how a lot of writers writer. There's more to a story than language. In fact, it's been said that truly good movies don't even need words.

it was only meant to be a little project not a 3 hour long screenplay, he wrote the idea which was lovely!!

reply

I think its silly that this is even on the imdb.

reply

Why?

reply

You need to write what the actions are, the blocking, the different shots and angles...
If you think that you can just show up with a video camera do a one-take shot of an entire movie, making it up as you go, and create an enitire movie, you are insane. Each shot is carefully planned out.

It's a movie, isn't it? This is a database for movies. Hence, The Internet Movie Database.

I don't think that's true about the movies. If you want to be free, do an original script, but if its a book homage, stuick close. Just what I think.

Uh, it's a movie. WHY should it not be on IMDb?

I thought it was really good. But something I want to point out, on the making of it say Dom Monaghan gave him a lot of help writing it as well, but on here he's not listed. As a fan, I think that sucks.

I know, Sean explicity says before the film on the DVD that he and Dom worked out the story.

Is there anyway to include Dom in the writing credits here?

Don't you forget about me...

reply

In the credits of this movie, they share writing credit.
