I don't understand this aspect of the show...

It always shows a video of them talking about their style (or lack thereof) - so, under what pretense are they talking to the camera about their wardrobe? Because it's always before the team springs upon them. Is it just a film crew pretending to survey random people in the street about their clothing? Wouldn't people catch on to that - especially if they watch the show, which a lot of these people claim they do?
