What's with the heavy makeup all of a sudden?? spoiler

When Alice goes into the convenience store (after she sleeps with that particularly raunchy guy), she is wearing a gallon or two of makeup.

Why is she suddenly wearing so much?! She hadn't in any previous scenes.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

She already was a 'whore' before she started wearing the heavy makeup.

That's almost word-for-word what I was going to say. The make-up change further showed her descent into that life; it represented the figurative mask she was wearing as she fell further into that existence.
