Customers werent 'horrible' enough

I really enjoyed this movie. My one minor gripe is I like when these prostitution movies show you the girls having to sleep with hideous people. I hate those Made For TV movies where the johns all look like Pierce Brosnan! I would assume most guys going to hookers arent all that great looking.

Reemember the scene where the guy with the long scraggly gray hair was chasing Alice with a 5 dollar bill? They should have shown her having to sleep with HIM! That wouldve scared girls off ever becoming a prostitute for sure!

I know what you mean - Pretty Woman comes to mind - but within the reality of the movie I guess Bill is screening the johns and they are willing to pay $200 which filters out the riff raff

Taking the time to carefully pick her "Johns" was the couples stratagy for controlling her. They made her think they were protecting her. If she got beat up the second or third time she would have run away. They were going to get alot of use out of her. Remember as a young girl they were expecting more money per half hour.

Prostitutes don't sleep with everyone that comes along. If a John looks dangerous or too ugly or thunks he's a cop she's going to turn him down.

And I actually think most Johns are actually like the bald guy with a family. Normal looking guys that just want sex with someone other than their spouse.

The customers actually seems more dignified than than prosties here, except for the scary guy with the scraggly hair and the Lincoln.

I agree in a way, they did seem kinder & less ugly than you'd think.
But again, like another poster mentioned, Bill was screening the men. Most scuzzbags aren't likely going to be willing to pay $150 for a lay.

But we didn't see most of her johns, only 2 of them actually.

As several have pointed out, scrutinizing the johns made for less creepy-looking guys for both Alice and Sondra. Plus, one has to take notice that Alice only made $750, meaning she only did it five times. As another poster mentioned about control, I can see the guys not being so bad at first, but her later being with ones that were worse. As if the longer she got more comfortable with this existence, the more likely Bill would have been less particular.
