In Their Own Words...

This documentary is a bit of a let down. It obfuscates many facts and from reading the posts has apparently brought about great confusion. I've read posts praising the WU's activism but then decrying the statements from members saying they would 'do it again'.

The confusion stemming from the fact that the WU did not accomplish any demonstrable end from their terrorist activities in ending the Vietnam War. Of course that makes a lot of sense since the Weather Underground conducted the vast majority of its operations in the early '70s, and after the Vietnam War had already come to an end.

To bring a little light on the subject, I've linked below a copy of Prairie Fire, the manifesto of the Weather Underground (it is being hosted on a conservative blog, but I don't know for how long so grab it while you can) detailing their ideology which isn't precisely a doctrine that advocates pacifism and an end to War, but an end to War against communist forces and the defeat of western liberalism on communism's behalf.

What didn't make sense was their criticism of "imperialism", all the while the anti-war left was being funded by the imperialist Soviet Union* (KGB & GRU). The Weather Underground couldn't have been so dimwitted they didn't realize that, but it made for compelling propaganda to people that weren't capable of linear thinking

* GRU and KGB had a larger budget for antiwar propaganda in the United States than it did for economic and military support of the Vietnamese.
