Dirty South vs. West Coast vs. East Coast

What genre do u think presents the best songs, me personally i like the dirty south cuz T.I. is one of the best rappers who ever lived. so is lil' wayne..............but also the west is cool with snoop, ice cube and dre

reply

its hard to decide between west and east...mid 90's id say it was the west when pac and biggie were still alive (both spectacular rappers)...now, id say its more east coast...that being said, the dirty south is pretty weak

reply

the south is the worst rap ever. The only talented ones are Outkast and Ludacris is decent. West coast is best but then pac died and it went downhill but at its peak no one could touch the west.

reply

I agree, the dirty south is horrible( of course the exception of 2 live crew), but outkas and ludacris seem to have the most talent down there.
The east coast started rap, and the sugarhill gang, grandmaster flash, kurtis blow, and russel simmions took it from the streets, condensed it, and put it into music. Then run dmc, beastie boys, whodini, and eric b and rakim brought it along. I believe it was at its peak in the late 80\'s
The west coast was purely gangsta rap and i think started with Too Short or another rapper before him. Then it exploded with nwa, ice cube, dr dre, snoop dogg, and tupac.

I like east coast and west coast at their best.

Johnnie Red neat, ok, do it, Do It.

reply

as of right now i cant say. All rap from the south is basically PoP rap. Ludicris is alright, along with outkast, but lil wayne is the best rapper down there, and i think papoose is from down there to maybe hes east coast cant remember. Immortal technique being one of the only alive east coasters I like. There may be a few other but none come to mind.
West Coast is kinda dead as of now but I like Dre, Snoop.

You seem to forget Midwest, well i wouldnt say its dominant but Bone Thugz n Harmony comes from Ohio.

My Favorite alive rappers are -Immortal Technique, and LiL Wayne.
I also like people like Mos Deaf and Talib Kwalib (not exactly spelled like that)
but they can come out with some good music. Papoose isnt to big, but that man is crazy on the mic

grannyblu...have you ever heard TI rap live? He is garbage. It must take them a month to edit and enhance his tracks. He is bad. The dirty south is absolutely horrible, except Ludacris and Bubba Sparxxx. East Coast is were it is at today. No debate.

reply

footballspy, I believe Papoose is from new york, he's got the burroughs tattooed on his hand. As for the best, While i enjoy dirt south music, lyrically it can't stand with the other rap styles, not saying that someone from the south can't have substance behing his lyrics, I'm just judging as a whole. I like to go to clubs and dance and thats where the dirty south comes in, with snapping and leaning or whatever little dance is hot at the moment. I've always liked mos Def, Kweli, and Common. And lately I've been going through alot of DJ mixtapes and thats more of an east coast - new york thing. If I had to chose one, i would have to go the East.

it helped kill rap thats for sure...crunk to be symbolizes the end (when a guy can make millions off of three words, you know the whole form has degenerated)

but rappers like 50 and the rest of his G-Unit clan put another nail in rap's coffin with every song

to build on some other stuff that has been previously said, East Coast is basically where it started...Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five and the Sugarhill Gang especially...The Message and Rapper's Delight started rap and paved the way for everyone who followed

then all these rappers came out in the 80's from the east coast, such as Run DMC and Public Enemy...with a few from the west, such as NWA

so id say the east coast hit its prime during this time and was probably the best...

in the mid 90's, it was the west coast with Dre, Snoop, and Pac among others...the east was spectacular as well, with Biggie, Wu-Tang and its endless array of underground rappers...there were also a bunch of others who didnt come from either coast, notable Bone Thugs n Harmony

nowadays, its back to the east coast, because after pac, the west coast kind of disbanded...and their classic "gangsta" rap style was saturated with new rappers who couldnt hold a candle to those rappers back in the day...the east coast still has several rappers who actually rap about something with substance, such as Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Mos Def, and Talib Kweli among others

but now its just the same crap with every single song...feel bad for these young kids who are from this generation of rap...they dont know what actual talent is nor what actual rap is...just generic, lazy, weak rhymes with no meaning whatsoever that are not genuine in any way (The Game rhymes "uh" with "uh" several times in How We Do...and he is one of the better rappers, among generally popular rappers, these days despite being very mediocre AT BEST...how sad is that)

reply

Okay. Well. I Dont Really Know. I Think Each Of Them Have/Had Some Pretty Talented Artists.

Dirty South Has Ludacris, Big Boi/Outkast, Lil Wayne, and T.I. (Although A LOT Of People Say He Sucks Live.) plus more.

West Coast Has Pac, Snoop, Coolio, DJ Quik, Dre, Xzibit, Warren G, and Daz + more. lol.

East Coast has Biggie, Public Enemy, Big Daddy Kane, Jay-Z, Nas + more. lol

But Im Gonna Have To Say, I Would Pick West Coast. The G-Funk Thing Is What Really Gets Me. Lol. So That Would Be My Pick On This Dirty South vs. West Coast vs East Coast Thing. But Thats Just My Opinion. :)

Puff Daddy
Wu Tang Clan
50 Cent
Public Enemy
Run DMC
Grandmaster Flash
ETC

Where's Busta Rhymes from?

reply

nice list but mine would have to be west coast due to the simple fact that the greatest rapper of all time was from there - the one and only tupac shakur!!!!

there some talent in Detroit also in the form of eminem, trick trick, obie trice and stat quo

nelly is from the midwest (st. louis) and yeah he sucks...I cannot believe for the life of me he tried to battle krs-one...that's funny

reply

...why is 50 Cent on that list? His rhymes suck, have you ever read his lyrics? He's young jeezy with a deeper voice. C'mon, the only reason he's hot is cause he get's ill beats, and all little rap boys love his steroid muscles. He is relativly smart though, I'll give him that, he knows how to hustle, and to strike when the iron's hot, with the clothes, shoes, drinks, and hitting the streets with an album from everyone in his crew (despite the fact that all of their lyrical content (besides Bucks) is garbage) almost right after his major debut, he's got it down to a science that no one seems to want to learn from.

There isnt much debate here East coast all the way they really dont even compare tu pac is the only great rapper from the west coast the south is a joke they are just kicking out terrible music that makes me embarresed to listen to rap

reply

Westcoast was better when 2pac was there but now it's still good because of the game and some others but I'd go with East cuz theres still real rappers like jay-z dmx fat joe and others

the dirty south isn't good at all the only good rappers there are ludacris outkast and young buck

reply

young buck is from the south and he can actually rap really well, im not a fan of g unit.
west was better before back in the day, the south is pretty bad as a whole, east coast is beter now, with the exception of dr. dre.

reply

Southern rap is horrible, Grillz is the worst thing to rap about, they took hip hop for a bad name everyone knows hip hop as dirty south because it gets played alot. With exception of Ludacris, some of T.I.'s songs and Weezy. I live in the south and have for many many years.. i dont and will not ever like it or most of it. West Coast wins, for me.
