Bulb in vagina-scenes

I didn't quite understand the scenes, where the women put a bulb in their vaginas when dancing tango. Is a kind of test, where the women are measured by their ability to keep a pretty posture while dancing tango without dropping and smashing the bulb? Is it common among tango dancers to put bulb or other items in their vaginas during the dance?
