By watching this great, magical film I remembered one very strange and interesting film from my childhood.. I saw it in a movie theatre in Moscow, in mid 80's... Anyway - here's the link and plot summary

"In the 1800s, a baron, who is the owner of a castle known as The Devil's Castle and who is also an obsessed opera fan, keeps the body of his favorite diva preserved in a crypt in the castle. In order to keep away potentially nosy visitors, the baron's mad-scientist assistant, invents all sorts of spooky phenomena in order to give the castle a creepy reputation."

I understand there's probably dozens similar stories in movies, but I think brothers Quay saw this one..

Hi questhunter!

A very big thank you!
For years I had some fragments of a movie that I saw on TV in my mind.
But just a few and not very clear.
And when I've read about "piano tuner" it reminded me of the little fragments in my mind.
And it must be the film you're writing about!
I have to watch it as soon as possible.

Thanks for posting the link, sounds amazing...might be a bit of a holy grail scenario though. I can only find "Lemonade Joe" on DVD, so I'll give it a try!

It is said in that film (The Mysterious Castle in the Carpathians) that Jules Verne wrote the story - called Le chateau de Carpathes in French. So here is where the roots are :) I wonder why there is no credit about this in the Piano Tuner of Earthquakes.
