Did Susan know? (spoiler)

That Joe was dying? According to wikipedia, it says Susan and Joe's doctor's knew that he was in his "final stages" of his illness and was going to die. I don't remember mention of this in the film. I remember being just as shocked as anyone that Joe died so suddenly, and not to mention Joe talks about his long term future, unlike a person who was dying would do.
