Ham + Cheese Release on DVD

Hey Guys,

For all of those wondering when and how you can get the DVD for Ham & Cheese, it's being released in Canada by KaBoom Entertainment (www.kaboom-ent.com) on August 2nd - so ask your local rental place or retail outlet to get it into their stores! Thanks for all the support so far... I'll keep you posted on any updates. WPS

This movie came out at blockbuster across the street from me like a week ago and Wednesday night I saw it in the used bin for $6.99. I never heard of it but it had Dave Foley and Scott Thompson in it so I thought I would give it a try. I asked the guy behind the counter why it was for sale so quickly and he said they've only been renting one copy per night at most anyway. Still I bought it to see Dave Foley and Scott Thompson and besides Blockbuster has a special right now for 2 movies for $12 and I was already buying "Rise of the Phoenix".
It was a mistake, I should have listened to the employee. Especially when the employee at Blockbuster admits a movie is really bad, that must mean the movie is REALLY bad, and it was. I should have listened to the voice in my head saying "turn this movie off, it's horrible and won't get better" but I didn't.
Dave Foley and Scott Thompson were both all right, but the movie's plot was pretty bad and none of the other characters were very good, especially the two leads and most especially the fat one.
This might be the worst movie I've ever seen. If you watch it, wait until it's on T.V. for free.
2/10 (I have to give KITH members at least one point each!)

Is it avaliable in the states?

Completely off topic, but your comment "turn this movie off, it's horrible and won't get better," just completely reminded me of the way I felt watching Napoleon Dynamite.

reply

Hey Lizzy - the film is not available in the states yet, but you should be able to find it on eBay or Netflix? KaBoom is handing the Canadian release, so you might be able to order straight from them...

Melissajaneanderson - sorry you, uh - hated the film. We really did try our best, and some people like it, some people don''t. If you reply back or send me a message, I will reimburse your $6.99 (plus taxes). Thank you for the 2 points for the KITH - they are incredibly talented and first-class people. I don't know what Blockbuster you went to, but we're enjoying pretty solid rentals overall - I mean, we're not a Hollywood mega-movie, so the fact it got into Blockbuster is kinda cool to me, as it was my first feature film. Sorry you didn't enjoy it. At all. I'm pretty proud of what we did - but I will try to learn and grow for my next film ---- Warren Sonoda, Director, Ham & Cheese.

PS - Napolean Dynamite was a lot of fun! I'll take the comparison any day!

You've got to be kidding! Me and my friend picked this up on Saturday night and we both really enjoyed it... he even went back to the store to buy it the next day (when we were sober). I really enjoyed seeing actors from every Canadian television commercial I can remember--- the guy who made Kraft dinner in the washing machine! The heritage minute guy that created superman!! I didn't think it was much like ND though, more like Trailer Park Boys or Arrested Development---deceptively simple at first glance, but cutting and satiric underneath---one question---- HAVE YOU EVER LIVED!?

also---why was it called Ham & Cheese?

The title:

The real reason behind the title: Jason, Mike and I could not agree to any title, so in desperation Mike said we might as well call it "Ham & Cheese". I think the other possible titles was "Pickled Eggs". We asked our waitress which title she liked better and she said "Ham & Cheese - it's a good sandwich." So that's the title on the poster.

Thanks for enjoying the film!

I had wondered about the sandwich bit as soon as I saw it in the "Don't download, have a sandwich instead" or whatever that said. I've never laughed during an FBI warning, so that was a good start.

I had never heard of this movie when I found it at Blockbuster, but when I rented it and watched it, I laughed my brains out. I'm seriously considering taking Blockbuster up on the offer to "Own it for only $11.80 more!"

Thanks!

Hey, I thought of a much better (but pretty fake) explanation for you: One guy was a hammy actor, and the other was pretty cheesy.

Use it if you like, it's yours! :)

My girlfriend and I rented the DVD tonight ($5 for one day) and we really enjoyed it.

I thought it was interesting how the two story lines were written in different styles, ie. one as a straight story, and one as an "office" style mockumentary.

Just to let you know though, the version we rented had no DVD menu, just a white screen. Very odd....

Good luck with your future films

I really loved this film...especially....

The "mockumentary feel was great, and I felt myself cringing every time Barry Goodson did anything... which is the same feeling I get when watching David Brent on "The Office"

The fact that the two stories ran alongside each other, and crossed over, which I thought was really clever

The Drama group: Brought back bad memories from lame amateur dramatics groups, where there were always people taking it a little TOO seriously

And, of course Dave Foley without Pants on. What can I say...? :)

Yay to Canadian Movies :)

thanks for making it. my husband and i watched it last night (bought from movie gallery) and we laughed a lot. we liked mike beaver's performance best. i just wanted to give him a squeeze. jason got on my nerves but i guess that's what he was supposed to do. his jeans were making me sick! some of it was pretty twisted and we didn't know what was going on..(bird play/orgy thing). for the most part we laughed at a lot of it and i loved dave foley and scott thomson's performances a lot. (DON'T LOOK AT THE CAMERA EVER!) it reminds me a little of 'jane white is sick and twisted' (about as strange). loved it. thanks again.

No Katerbug, thank YOU for watching it --- and all those that have written in on these imdb boards. Whether you have nice words to say or you positively hated it --- it's good to know that this "little movie that could" has been able to get out there and be seen by a small, but sometimes very loyal audience (thanks Sybe Man for going out and BUYING THREE COPIES!!! - awesome). It was a wild, crazy ride to make it, and it's really great to see people respond to a film you've made - especially this one, since Ham & Cheese was my first film.

And my offer still stands Melissajaneanderson --- I'm sorry you didn't like the film and if you PM me back, I will gladly reimburse your 6.99 and sincerely try harder next time for you!

thanks for all the feedback,

Warren P. Sonoda, director/editor, Ham & Cheese

PS - Willem S Dejong --- thanks for noticing the "eat a sandwich" line in the Copyright Warning - yeah, I thought someone might get a kick out of it and our amazing graphics specialist Karim did a great job making the most out of an FBI warning.

Mr. Sonoda, sir, I have to come forward and add my name to the list of people who enjoyed your film.

Both I and my brother (whose name is ALSO Warren S. oddly enough!) are huge KITH fans, and fans of mockumentaries like The Office, The Rutles, and of course Spinal Tap.

And yet for some reason he didn't get into the "deeper level" of satire you were obviously striving for. *shrug*

Thanks for making this film, I'm sure you've learned a lot from the process (my brother, oddly enough again, is just starting out as a film maker, we're doing some little 5 minute projects etc. just for fun) and I hope you'll work with the Bobroom guys again!

Oh, and PS: genius casting of Samantha Bee, letting her play such a dynamic character, a real standout role :)

What? Another Warren S.??? Can the world handle that?!

Thanks for all the awesome feedback - and to be mentioned in the same breath as The Office, Spinal Tap, etc. is humbling to say the least.

If there was a "deeper level" to Ham & Cheese, I am sure glad you found it Darren, and I really appreciate you and your brother checking out our little movie. It really is great to hear it's still getting out there to people. And yes - can't wait to work with the Bobroom cats again - they're incredibly talented and a pleasure to work with - it's been fantatsic to see their careers take off.

Man, Blockbuster had three copies Previously viewed on for $4.99 apiece. I bought all of them. I still haven't figured out what I'm going to do with the other two!

Thanks for such a great, fun movie!

I'm watching it on TMN right now.

I'm not jumping on a couch all excited or anything. However for some reason it's keeping my attention. Considering I have the attention span of a cocker spaniel on crack... that's not bad.

Plus the Rolo girl is kinda hot so she keeps my interest.

Not a bad flick for a Canadian production.
