This is an awful movie..

Sorry, but to me, this film sucks! It's mostly stolen right off the french "Delicatessen" and all it does is exploid the popularity of the writer and the actors, which I'm sure is falling by now. A lot of people said "This film is funny", and I'm definately not without a sense of humour, but I need to ask "WHERE?"

reply

Btw, I should add, I loved the writers previous films such as I Kina spiser de hunde, Blinkende Lygter and Gamle Mænd i nye biler (although the so-called "effects" dragged down the whole movie), but this one was a pure let-down

reply

The funny about this film is how the characters obviously are deranged and insane, but in a very serious way.
There is no *funny ha ha* scene in this film, not in a traditional manner anyway. It's what they don't say that makes it funny

reply

I agree with you (Diskill) its exacly what they dont say that makes it funny in a very "black humor" way.. Ofcourse parralels can be drawn between Delicatessen and DGS. An Delicatessen is and always will be cult and cant be replaced. But I think it is a great movie. Not directed as good as it is written.. But please dont say its awfull.

reply

Yes some is taken from Delicatessen but comedy is based on ripping other comedies off. This is a very funny film that derives half its humour from situations and other half from the deadpan delivery of the lines much like 'The Office' series (also very very funny).

i wish i could find anything funny in this movie
but i can't!!!
i'm glad i am not the only one.
now Delicatessen was a way better film than this was.

But the film wasn't bad tho, i'd even recommend it to some ppl.
I gave it a 6.

This movie is fantastic... I love everything about it; one of the best films I've ever seen!

I thought this movie was a scream. It was a bit tedious having to read it rather than listen to it, but that wasn't a big deal really. I loved the scenes between Eigil and Svend.

"I'm the little Eigil sweetie"
"You may be. But not in here."

I lmao off at that. And then there was the list of items that Svend had thrown at him. Wood. A green bicycle pump. Poor sad sack guy. He was so nasty, so funny and so sympathetic all at once. Yes, it's an odd movie, and maybe not to everyone's taste but I found it to be really funny.

Hangover: The wrath of grapes.

I think it is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen!!! It's hilarious!! But I also LOVE that dry kind of humour.

You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.-Mr Darcy

The best part about that scene to me was when Svend told Eigil not to threaten him with the giraffe. But i must say that my favorite bit between those two was at the end when they were fighting over who had the biggest ball.

reply

yes! i wondered if anyone else would mention the bit at the end with the big balls. oh that was a good moment, completely bizarre. this was a funny movie i thought, but certainly not to everyone's taste..

Spoilers for both Delicatessen and De Grønne Slagtere.

This is a very late reply, but I've just seen De Grønne Slagtere, and before this I actually saw Delicatessen. So now I have to say that other than both being dark comedies that have cannibalism in them, I can't see much similarities.

Delicatessen is a dystopian future-movie, where a young woman must save the clown/entertainer she has fallen in love with from getting killed by her father (a butcher). Also involved is a crazy gang of vegetarians out to stop the butcher.

De Grønne Slagtere is about two weird butchers who start up their own business and start selling human meat. Also involved is the brain damaged twin brother of one of them, who loves animals.

I liked both of the movies about the same, and no, they are not that similar to each other.

Well this movie is truly VERY funny, if you can cope with the very... Different humor.

The humor is very ... Well yeah, not typical. The funny elements in this movie is the characters! The way the interact with eachother, the twisted way they react to the various events and stuff. Especially Svends reactions and responses in dialouges.

And about the plot being stolen... A butcher butchering people is really a very simple idea. No wonder it has occured more than one time, it's just in front of the writer/creator. The actual story is not essential what so ever, it's only used to create a setting for the movie. Of course it is also a tool/buffer for the various characters and their behaviour, but the story might as well have revolved around a guy selling sweetened piss at a lemonade stand (Tho' the butcher-story is probably better :P). As long as it's a little bizarre and makes the viewer smile with a minor feeling of disgust. If you can't spot that, you really have no bussiness discussing movies in-depth. These danish movies are actually all about character development! Nothing more nothing less... Each character are often extremely unique (and *beep* up) and has unique and remarkable background stories. Notice that you're ALWAYS introduced to the main characters individual stories at some point into these movies.
This is why these movie are so great! The fantastic character building and the psychological aspects of them, the bizarre settings and the sorta twisted humor (I wouldn't call it "dark" humor). All very simple, yet combined it's perfectly crafted.

To the original poster (5 years ago ^_^): This kind of humor is definately not for everybody... But if you don't find ANY parts of this movie slightly funny, I'm inclined to say that you in fact are without a sense of humor...
