Dude, he still had a child's mind, he never grew up, he had no friends, that's when he begins to change when he meets Sam & Victoria, they teach him all of these things and he greatly appreciates it. If you think that's the worst scene, to each his own. It shows how Danny wasn't paying attention, he was so caught up in the piano because he was curious. And it also adds the dog thing, most dogs are easily distracted.
