Americans don't like Castro because he's a communist. Other people like him because he brought down an oppressive regime in Cuba in the revolution in 1958.
And because he has managed to survive through numerous attempts by Americans to assassinate him and to remove his regime (see. Bay of Pigs Invasion), and at the same time managed to lead Cuba, regardless of prolonged economic sanctions by the United States.
