No microphone for the translator?

I would enjoy watching this film a great deal more if someone would have given translator, Juanita Vera, a microphone, or perhaps lowered Castro's so that I could actually understand what was said. It also would have been nice if there were subtitles to the footage of Castro's speeches. With these flaws the version of the film I have is essentially useless to me.

Is any of this corrected on the DVD?

I would see them as Oliver Stone's stylistics, all those 'flaws' are probably on purpose. So yeah, Stone tends to drive people up the wall with such things.
