Most disturbing aspect of the film for me

Grown men calling their Mother "Mommy". That, right there, made me impartial...and Daddy is also uncool.

Mommy just started to grate on me.

Side note: If you're going bald and you have a lone patch of hair on your forehead, frickin' SHAVE that thing!

The morning threw handfuls of ants in my eyes

Yes, they were a slovenly looking bunch, those boys. Terrible dress sense, appalling haircuts and a really poor taste in glasses. Considering their chosen medium for communication was film, you'd have thought they'd attempt to play to it more.

reply

It was the 1980's..everyone had that crappy taste in clothing and apparel.

Yes, hearing him say "daddy" was very disturbing. Which is very odd something to be disturbed by given that we are actually watching a film about a convicted pedophile. Innocent or otherwise.

reply

Ha ha ha! I thought the same throughout about the weird curl of hair and the comment about the poor choice of glasses was a personal highlight

In Long Island I agree but referring to parents as Mommy and Daddy is very common down south

I heard "Mama" and "Daddy" frequently in the South, but not "Mommy." That this was said so frequently as the sons were berating her for not supporting her husband and (David, in particular) making *very* personal observations and accusations about his parents' marriage that I found it very jarring.

And Daddy is trying to quiet everyone, and softly saying, "She doesn't call me slime every day."

I can't wait to get my sister-in-law to watch this; she's a psychologist, and I have so many
questions about this family's dynamics. (Actually, they can be summed up with "WTF?!")
