sooooooooooooooo awful!

My theatre teacher recommended it to me, and for awhile I was super excited to see it. But soon my excitement turned to horror. This movie was dreadful. Ugh.
The best part was Sondheim, which was only like 4 seconds of him!
If you're going to get a theater ICON for a sucky movie, why not use him to their full advantage?
I would have rather watched an hour and forty minutes of Sondheim just sitting.
Anyone like this monstrosity?

Absolutely hated it! It was awful. But it was fun to laugh at the stupidity in it. I actually watched this while at theatre camp, and believe me, it is not an accurate representation!

I was very very very tempted to throw a brick at my TV while watching this!

The singing performances were good...

Let me amend that...the singing performances of non-original songs were good...And Fritzy.

But everything else about this movie was simply horrible...the acting (both kids and adults...I'm looking at you songwriter guy), the writing, the plot, the original songs ("HEY, do you wanna go owowowt and plaayyyy the gaaymmeee?)...everything.

Just terrible.

Nothing redeeming outside of "Turkey Lurkey Time, Ladies Who Lunch, I'm Still Here, and I'm Telling You I'm Not Going."

And Fritzy.

The only enjoyable parts of this film for me were "Ladies Who Lunch" and the song near the end by the girl who had her jaw wired shut. They both had stage presence and surprisingly great voices compared to the others. All the other scenes were unbearably corny, stilted and/or boring. And I spent my junior high summers stage-managing children's theater productions, so I know what eccentric theater kids can be like, but these characters appeared way too conscious of the camera and uncomfortable to feel real.

Well, it works for Glee.

This is a sweet, and underrated film.

Glee sucks. This was better.

This movie wasn't horrible, but it could have been so, so much better! It had such potential. I think the leads were a bit weak. I like Daniel Letterle, but Joanna Chilcoat wasn't really 'leading lady' material. She was okay, though.

Anna Kendrick would have rocked the sh*t out of that role! But, she was an unknown at the time it was made. However, you could definitely see her star potential even then.

I don't really agree. It's flawed, but... there's something about it that does capture the essence of what's it's like to be a young person who doesn't really fit in who's into theater and among people like you for the first time. It captures the joys and pains of that experience. I would agree some of the drama is leaden and cliched, and some of the performances aren't too amazing, but I love this movie anyway.

I think How Can I See You Though My Tears, Turkey Lurkey Time and Century Plant are all excellent numbers. Capturing this fresh talent who obviously are getting great joy out of it. Sasha Allen's sings "Tears" in a way that's well beyond her years.

I'm older. I think you may have to get to a certain age to appreciate it, and to forgive some of the stuff that doesn't quite work.
