Sequel?

Is this supposed to be a sequel to the other musketeers movies Michael York did as D'Artagnan?

I don't think so, it seems like a pretty cheap TV movie that probably is on its own.

I'm pretty sure it is suppose to be a sequel to that movie

It is not an official to Richard Lester's musketeer trillogy (1972/1974/1989), ut a Hallmark production, in which they persuaded York to play the part one last time. According to one of the movie's producers (I think her name is Therese Ryan)they were throwing around names to play D'artagnan, and chose to ask York because the felt he was "The definitive" in Lester's movies.
I agree that he is The definitive D'artagnan in those films, but Hallmark manages to ruin everything. More or less, all their productions have a cheap, cheasy feel to 'em. A shame. Michael York is great, but this film is a let down. The french cinema take on the same story 'La fille de d'Artagnan' is better, and sophie Marceau is lovely in the part. If only York had been in that one. Instead "His" part is played by Phillipe Noiret, who curiously enough played Cardinal Mazarin in the third Lester film 'Return of the musketeers'. That by the way didn't live to the two first (which were shot a one long film, and then split into two for financial reasons).
And Depardieu, who plays Mazarin here, played Porthos in the dreadful 'The Man in the iron mask' from the late 90's.

So Depardieu has played Porthos and Mazarin
Noiret has played Mazarin and d'Artagnan
and Michael York IS d'Artagnan.

But the best guide to Dumas film adaptations imho would be:

The three musketeers/ The four musketeers - Richard Lester 1972/1974
The Man in the iron mask (TV) - Mike Newell 1976
La fille de d'artagnan - Bertrand Travernier 1994
(even though it is without York).
