Korean culture difference? affairs and children?

I watched this movie on SBS last night and thought it was an excellent movie. The sex scenes, though frequent and passionate - were all part of the story rather than just gratuitous.

Kim Yoon-jin is amazingly beautiful in the film. I didnt quite get why she simply accepted she couldnt see her child anymore though - I figured it was part of the Korean culture?

I mean the husband didnt exactly behave like a saint and he really did set off the chain of events.
