The Insanity of It All

As I'm rewatching this I am thinking about how insanely unfair it is for Matilde's mother to expect her to bail them out of their financial problems by marrying money when her son is expected to do nothing. It looks to me as though the father should have gotten on his case long before this.

Ughhhhh I HATE her brother. He is an inconsiderate a-hole and to top it off, he still insists on *beep* with his sister's life and he doesn't give a *beep* what the consequences are.

In the real world I would think that Humberto would have been expected to either enter the military or law school and would have been expected to contribute to the family income. Augusta obviously enables his laziness. He's a leech.

The long hair is also so out of place in that era. He reminds me of Gary Oldman's version of Count Dracula.

Augusta's issues with Matilde are obviously about the fact that since her own marriage was arranged why shouldn't Matilde's be? Particularly since Matilde is meant to compensate for her mother's failure to marry money.

That does suck that just because the brother messed up the family, and it is the sister who suffers the burden of marrying for money. I know she does find love eventually in her marriage but through a painful ordeal of it. Manuel makes it hard to love the guy, you wanna hate him but pity him too.
