naked?

I'm really confused. why did Helen walk around naked in front of all the kings?

She had power that way. She made them know it.

reply

I agree with Anthraks response.

I don't know if it's true to the Iliad, but in the first part of the movie all the kings swore an oath that they would only admire Helena from a far. This was agreed before the dice was cast as to whom she would belong.

reply

Menelaus had Helen do this to show that she was his alone to do as he liked.

reply

they specifically say in the movie that all the other kings wanted to see that what they were defending was in fact actually worth it. In other words, was Helen actually as beautiful as was claimed. If she was, then her marriage was worth defending, if not, then there was no need to actually go to war to defend her, since she was not actually that beautiful. These kings took an oath to die to defend this relationship. They had to know that their deaths and the sacrifice of their kingdoms and armies would not be in vain. The only way to know this would be to see all of her. Helen consented to this because she knew these kings were making a great sacrifice in defending her and her marriage.

reply

helen only consented because in losing Theseus and Pollux, she lost a piece of herself, therefore she did not care what happened to her anymore, as she considered her life over as she knew it.

reply

I dunno exactly why she was forced to do that but I have to thank Sienna, the director and producers for that scene!

Sienna has one of the most beautiful bodies I've ever seen!

reply

There is no need to get excited, they probably used a body double in some scenes instead of Sienna. What a shame...
For example, we have never seen the face of the nude actress WALKING in the hall full of kings and servants, so then it was a body double, I am 99,99% sure of that. When you see a naked body, you cannot see her face and vice versa.
You can identify Sienna without any doubt only while she was standing on the elevated stage.

reply

Actually, they did not use a body double. Sienna said she had to do the scenes all by herself. She talked about that nude scene a bit in some old interview, and said she was not entirely naked (had on pasties and a thong). She mentioned that all the male extras were suppose to cheer and leer at her as she walked in, but they were embarrassed on her behalf and would not look at her.

Well, thx for the explanation. However, it seems they spoiled the scene, because watching Sienna (not-so) full frontal or topless at least would be much more fun :)

It wasn't very clear in my mind why she walked naked; I'd have to watch the movie again to hear Menelaus actually ask her to do this. It made Helen look flakey. But it also addressed the nature of Helen. While Sierra Guillory is pretty, she is relatively petite. What if they had asked someone like Elizabeth Hurley to play this role? (In 2003, Elizabeth Hurley would have been about 37 years old--still way too old for what would have been in reality a teenaged Helen.) But the size of Elizabeth Hurley would have added a dimension of power to the role of Helen that a diminutive Helen does not. Also, even the Greeks had trouble deciding the actual role of Helen--as a descendant of Zeus, she would be a demi-god, and therefore be exempt from normal human consequences. Is Helen controller of events, or is she controlled by events? Is she a manipulator of men with her beauty?
