Haven't you people ever traveled?

It is so annoying to go on these boards and hear people say:

"This is why you shouldn't go to third world countries. This place is a *hole. Why would people live/visit/work in these places..."

In this particular case, Brazil is one of the most developed nations in South America. It is ethnically diverse, rich in culture, tradition, and history. It is the largest country in South America and the 5th largest in the world.

If the movie showed a side of a country that you didn't like, you have to understand you are seeing only one side of a multifaceted jewel. It would be a shame if people thought the U.S. was exactly like what they see in "Bully", "Jersey Shore", and rap videos (And they do, they really do). I wish people would start thinking beyond the stereotypes and stop believing everything they see in the movies is real.

Poverty is poverty no matter where you live. And those that have not are always going to be jealous of those that have. Poverty, political corruption, and crime look the same in every city in different countries: graffiti tagged apartment buildings, alleys that smell like pee, drug users, nicely paved roads where the rich people live, etc. Just because parts of L.A. look like the climax scene from a Zombie Apocalypse doesn't mean that I'm not going to go see Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

This is a torch song. Touch me and you'll burn.

just watched, at a time when we are cutting government services in the US, it shows the real cost of the 'savings' you get when you don't pay fair taxes and you don't require fair services. a quality policy force keeps you free

Brazil is not "one of the most developed nations" in South America. Brazil is THE richest, best, and most developed country in South America. São Paulo is the biggest city in the southern hemisphere, Brazil's health care is better than most countries' , and of course, Brazil is the 7th greatest economy in the world. There is crime, because there is crime everywhere. There are poor people, but the levels of poverty are decreasing.
It's a great country, no matter what most people think.

I meet people from outside the US who think that the US is like that: a silly fantasy based on our pop culture.

So it goes both ways.
