The Debate To End All Debates

Let's begin a debate, shall we, a mature and respectful one, one in which you must contribute a lot of thought and time, probably, into your argument.
HALO or SPLINTER CELL?
We'll try and make it as civilized as possible, and so here's my slice:

Splinter Cell is one of the best and most sucessful multi-format Shoot 'Em up in the past few years, and even though it catches Secret Service/Goverment Corruption Action/Adventure, Halo is the epitome of gaming greatness. It is thousands times better, and storyline, although needed to be deepened alot, is vastly better than SC, the gameplay is probably the best I've ever experienced, bar Zelda Ocarina of Time. It's undeniably superior to all FPS out there, it slams the recent James Bond series, even topped-off Timesplitters 2 in both Single AND Multi-Player.
Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark, (My Preference the Former) two of the greatest Shoot 'Em Up/FPS of their generation and the next, were even beaten, just marginally, by Halo.If it can beat them, to what other game does it need to prove itself to?Splinter Cell just cant keep up in any format.
Splinter Cell must face up to the fact it's in a whole different league when it stepped into the Xbox FPS genre...

I think you should be comparing Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid. What does Halo have to do with Splinter Cell, other than it being on the XBOX?

I have a different kind of debate, who would prevail if they were stalking and tracking one another to kill them, Sam Fisher from "Splinter Cell" or #47 from "Hitman" and "Hitman 2:Silent Assassin". I say 47 because he is more proficient with a wider variety of weapons and seems more deviant and brutal in his kills. Plus he was CREATED not born, so all he knows is killing, while sam is human, and has a family, 47 lives for his contracts.

yes, splinter cell and metal gear solid should be compared.

I'd go with metal gear solid.

Let's see... Splinter Cell isn't even an FPS, so why we'd compare it to Halo is an open question. One's a game about blasting the bejeezus out of everything, one's about slipping through to your objective without anyone knowing you were there. Apples and oranges.

As to the Sam Fisher vs. 47 question, my vote definitely goes to Sam. Better gadgets.

I THINK YOU SHOULD BE COMPARING HALO TO SC...IT DOESNT MATTER IF THEY ARE BOTH TOTALLY DIFFERENT...THEY ARE BOTH GREAT GAMES...STICK TO THE TOPIC...I THINK HALO TOTALLY SMASHES SPLINTER CELL...SPLINTER CELL IS ONE OF THE GREATEST GAMES I HAVE EVER PLAYED AND IS GREAT FOR THOSE WHO ARE PATIENT...BUT HALO IS BETTER...THE REPLAY VALUE IS SO MUCH BETTER AND MAKES THE XBOX WHAT IT IS. ALTHOUGH SC HAS BETTER GADGETS AND MORE PHYSICAL ABILITIES, HALO PREVIALS. HALO HAS A WIDER SELECTION OF WEAPONS AND MORE ACTION...I GIVE SC 9.25/10 AND HALO 10/10

Er... you do realise that Splinter Cell is neither a "shoot 'em up" or a first person shooter? It's a STEALTH game, or a 'sneak 'em up, if you prefer'. It's incomparable to Halo, because it's from a completley differnt genre. It's like trying to compare Love Actually and Lord of the Rings (take any one from the three). They're both great in their own ways, but they are not directly comparable, and therfore this is a pointless argument. Calling it "The debate to end all debates" is stupid. I want my money back!

However, from the simpler perspective of their both being games, it is inescapable to conclude that Halo is a much better game, I agree. However, it is not the same type of game and cannot be said to be a better FPS than Splinter Cell, because, as I said, Splinter Cell is not an FPS. Idiot.

WE ARE NOT COMPARING HALO WITH SC..WE ARE SAYING WHICH IS BETTER. AND DONT ASK ME WHY I SAID COMPARE B4... IM A DUMBASS.

Alright...for the one who said that Halo's story needs to be broadened...go to your local Barnes & Noble and grab a copy of each of the Halo novels...after reading the novels, you will start to catch things in the actual game that you didn't before...things that only the books hint to. Halo is just as deep and moving as LotR (that was an overstatement...) and the mythology behind the game is deeper than the infidels who stare at their screen hoping for some random piece of information to jump out at them ever know. Halo is sooooo much more than a simple war between humans and aliens. Read the books, because the fun of adventure is the thrill of discovery.

the big problem that everone is trying to outline to you is that you can't say which is better...

in order to determine which game is better, you need to compare them. what are each game's strengths and weaknesses? the previous oranges and apples argument is also true.

these two games are great fun. one is fun through spectacle (alien planets, big guns, bigger bad guys and lots of shooting), and the other is through lighting and suspense (can he sneak by, will he get caught). even the question, 'which is more fun', can't really be answered. i cant tell you which is more fun to me, because one day i might feel like just blowing stuff up, and another day i might feel like being subtle. peoples tastes are different and can change depending on their mood...

basically, my point is that there is no definitive answer to your question, which appears to be what you're looking for.

I think Splinter Cell is the greatest game ever created.

There's no debate in my opinion. Halo and Splinter Cell shouldn't even be compared because they aren't the same kind of game. I enjoy playing Splinter Cell more than I enjoy playing Halo though.

Well to say which is better you need to compare them. So here it goes:

Splinter Cell tends to be on a near future but is from things that could be happening today, which means it's realistic (What the hell? It is Clancy!) Halo tends to be for a, lets say more of a "future" than near future, and we don't even know if is possible. It's sci fi (which I like don't get me wrong). The gameplays of both are different, but in SC you need to do the change on camera so it adjust to the gamplay, meaning there's a wider variety of choices and moves than that of Halo. Both of the games guide you to use your instincts but while in Halo you have to keep running to not be shot, in SC you have to know when to run and when to stop.. meaning it's harder and directs you to use your brain. In Halo there's always an opportunity to act, in SC you need to wait for the opportunity or create one, and you need to take your chance once that door is open or else you deserve a bullet. Halo has a more wider variety of weaponry than SC but considering that SC is a Stealth game... how would Lambert put this: "Your gun should be your last resort. Invisibility is your vest weapon." I think that pretty much summarizes it, lol. The storyline from Halo is amazing but it's needs to be more deepened. The storyline from SC... there's always something new, and in some cases they complement each other. In one you have Master Chief who's a big guy all muscles and luck and at the other you have Sam who's 5'10'' muscles but mostly brains, and depends more in his strategy or approach than in his guns.

Some of the things... not all.

Personal opinion, Halo is a great game but I like SC better 'cause is not just run and shoot, you have to think, and you even learn stuff. The characters, I like Sam better cause it's more real, more human (even if he is one of the coldest soldiers there is in gaming). People can identify with the character, while Master Chief tends to be... Spartan 117, there's not much to him. He's just a weapon. Halo has sold so much 'cause it was one of the first games for when the Xbox came out... but I'd rather go with Far Cry on PC than Halo. Anyways I'll stick with SC for this one, though Halo remains close to heart. My respects to Master Chief.
