Tough call... I thought Splinter Cell had a cooler story line, with those CNN esque updates. Halo had better action, and didn't have to re-load your game every 30 seconds. Halo also had a better weapons variety. Sam Fisher was a little bit more mobile, and could do some cooler stuff then MC. A la: Fisher can clime polles, rappel, split jump, jump from a surface down onto an enemy, sneak quitly, silent jump, and bunch of other things. MC can: run, walk, crouch, jump, climb, and that is about it. But Halo is better, but not by much. After seeing a trailer for Halo 2, I think Halo 2 will be better then SC, and Halo.

Cute guys of hollywood - looks, money, fame = me

"yeah right, i'm so sick of you people that get stuck with an x-box then put down all of the ps2 games that you can. splinter cell rocks and it is the most underated game of the year...................rob."

dude splinter cell was on xbox way before ps2 and most people still consider it an xbox game. it was designed for xbox.

Halo 2 may beat our Splinter Cell, but the two shall meet again in battle for coolest with the developement of Splinter Cell 2: Pandora Tomorrow.

Splinter Cell is one of the best and most sucessful multi-format Shoot 'Em up in the past few years, and even though it catches Secret Service/Goverment Corruption Action/Adventure, Halo is the epitome of gaming greatness. It is thousands times better, and storyline, although needed to be deepened alot, is vastly better than SC, the gameplay is probably the best I've ever experienced, bar Zelda Ocarina of Time. It's undeniably superior to all FPS out there, it slams the James Bond series and has some competion from Timesplitters, but that's about it.Splinter Cell must face up to the fact it's in a whole different league when it stepped into the Xbox FPS genre...

reply

Splinter Cell is NOT AN FPS OR A SHOOT 'EM UP! It's a stealth/espionage game, and if you played as if it were a shoot 'em up I question how far you got because teh AI isn't forgiving for stupidity.
I can't believe that anyone would mistake it for an FPS. I'm getting tired of this argument, you can't begin to compare Halo and Splinter Cell on a gameplay level because they're two totally different genre's.

reply

Halo is a futuristic theme (if there are any aliens at all). Splinter Cell sets up in our present. Maybe you are saying that Halo is better because of the publicity that it got. Still, looking at how many people boght Splinter Cell and didn't give it back, Splinter Cell was a huge hit comparing it to Halo. Plus, Splinter Cell came not only for X-box, but also for Game Cube and PS2. So the selling statisticts was way bigger than Halo. That's another way I can compare them. If you want to see the other way then read my post, because I'm not writting it all over again.

reply

Storyline of Splinter Cell is crap. You just see some random news clips and they cut them off as soon as they are about to say something important. Still I pefere Splinter Cell over Halo, but Halo over SC when playing in Co-op.

Halo = Good Co-op, boring otherwise.
SC = Good game with crappy plot.

reply

Halo had better action, and didn't have to re-load your game every 30 seconds.

That's entirely on you.

EDIT: I didn't realize your post was from 2003... Holy crap.

Halo was very good, I liked the first half of the game better. It seemed like right after you made it through half of the game, the rest of it was mindlessly blasting at every thing that moved.
I'm not into system bashing, just get all of them, there all worth having.
Splinter cell is better on X-Box. Also, the extra Splinter Cell levels on the Rainbow Six3 demo are very good.

These people try to compare Splinter Cell and Halo (both incredible games) however the formats of the two games are completely different.

1) Halo is a random shoot em' up FPS.

Splinter cell is a third person covert shooter.

2) Halo uses large and powerful weapons that intend to destroy the enemy and everything or everyone around it, (i.e. every weapon in the game) as well as alert more enemies to the scene. ANY weapon can be used to kill ANY enemy.

Splinter Cell uses small and powerful weapons that get the job done in a covert manner. Also, not every gadget is required in a mission.

3) Halo takes little FPS experience to learn due to its idea of shoot everything in sight and take no prisoners. Puzzles are seldom outside the lines of "How can I take out that room full of aliens more quickly?" or "What is the quickest way to kill this guy?"

Splinter Cell uses an innovative engine that requires players to have quick reflexes, timing, and problem solving skills in order to sneak past guards and cause few body counts in order to conserve ammunition and get to the objective quickly.

4) Speaking of ammo, in Halo EVERYONE carries a useable weapon, (with the rare exception of hunters and energy sword toting elites) and if that someone dies, you can pick up the weapon and find it comes with a suitable ammount of ammo to get you through the next series of rooms. Ammo can be found anywhere! So you don't have to worry about running out. IF you do run out, just pick one off a fallen alien. He won't mind.

As said before, Splinter Cell requires you to conserve your ammo. If you run out, tough luck as some enemies may not carry a gun and as for those that do, you usually won't be able to use it. This is where the "sneaking" and "using your reflexes" comes into play.

Bottom line, Halo and Splinter Cell are two completely different games. Both are fun, both grab my interest, but one cannot be said better than the other, due to the different format, skills required, and gaming style.

THANKYOU KUBRICK that i what i thought when i saw this post, u cannot compare the two games

reply

TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!! WELL SAID!

"halo is better"?

So what did you expect going into this game? A mindless FPS with lot of shoddy AI opponents and a lot of shooting? I'll bet you're the kind of gamer who skips through cutscenes because you don't have the patience to listen to the info. I get the feeling you couldn't understand why you kept getting a mission failed on teh first level when you jumped onto the street.

This is like comparing a radio to a napkin, one has nothing to do with th other. Halo is an action shooter while Splinter Cell is a tactical stealth game. Both are damned fine games for their genre's, but you can't really compare them..

A more fair comparison would be Halo vs. Medal of Honor or Splinter Cell vs. Metal Gear Solid

reply

You are comparing apples and oranges here.

Halo is a FPS and Splinter Cell is a 3rd person stealth game. You can't possibly say one is better than the other. Both games have their merits and I believe they are both the same quality.

Still breathing, good sign

Halo 2 takes place somewhere not on earth and in splinter cell Sam works for the national security agency. I don't see the point in that one.

There is no 'save game' in real life

reply

"if you want to compare the Halo series to something, compare it to the Timesplitters series. Both series are absolutely brilliant FPS games with great plot"

dude, the first timesplitters literally had no plot, and the second one barely had enough to hold the game together. but the game was still awesome.

still, as about 20 abouve me have said, you cannot compare SC and halo

I'm not gonna reply to 'evildeadash', because his post will prolly be deleted soon, but I just have to say I agree with everybody that says Halo does not compare. They are completely different types of games. If you like running into the middle of a room and blasting the crap out of everything in sight, play Halo, but if you want tactical, coordinated spying and stealth, play Splinter Cell.

Splinter Cell, love it or shove it.

reply

Both games are good.

Splinter cell is just better. I bought both at the same time, after they had been out for a few years, (this was about 6 months ago) and I still haven't beaten Halo, But I finished all three Splinter cells.

But I'm drunk and rambling.

reply

Halo and Splinter Cell are two different games. Splinter Cell is a stealth game and Halo is an action game. Both are great in their own genre.
