Canceled

According to CBS president Les Moonves, My Big Fat Greek Life has been canceled and will not be returning in the fall due to poor ratings and apparent creative/on-set spats with Nia Vardalos.

The biggest problem with the show was taking an idea that is brilliantly funny for about 90 minutes and expecting the joke to work every week for 30 minutes. Ain't and didn't happen

why is this show worth making it wasnt an all that great movie in the first place! just plain, simple and a little boring

reply

Well, getting rid of that "thing" was the first GOOD choice CBS has made in 40 years!

I loved the movie and I think this show might have had a chance at working if they didn't change so much. They should have left her name as Toula and should have tried harder to get John Corbett.

reply

They never should have gone forward without John Corbett. He was part of what made the film work. Also, sadly, Nia didn't have the kind of creative control that led to the film being so successful. So, essentially, the stupid, inept network producers took a smash hit film and made it into a common, uninspired, sitcom. Yes, the show had some excellent moments but failed due to the reasons mentioned above.

At this point, I would still love to see another TV series done right and a sequel if the right script came along.

reply

Ok, ya why did they change her name from Toula to Nia???? like wtf is wit that, and I think John Corbett was EXTREMELY smart not to sign on, he would have been ridiculed!

I loved the movie. Bought the DVD. But when I saw the TV show on DVD (I never saw the TV show when it aired) I was interested to see what they had done. With a few things unncessarily changed, overall I still love the show as well. Afterall, many TV shows that spawn from movies go through a metamorphisis. I think the show could have been a success had CBS given it a chance...like how Cheers, Taxi, and several other shows that started off slow were given. But networks now want quick profit. A shame. It would have been great to see how these characters developed. And the cast...wow! An awesome array of talent! At least there are 7 episodes and a movie to cherish.

It really is a shame that Nia didn't have the creative control to make the show a hit like the film. Again, Corbett was essential to the show but was not available at the time. Nia didn't want to go ahead without him and she was right. They should have waited for Corbett's contract on the other show to have expired and then picked him up.

Is this show worth watching? Will itruin the mvie?? please reply!!

reply

Yes, it is worth watching, if not for any other reason, just to see Michael Constantine as brilliant as ever.

reply

I'm watching the show tonight for the first time. I have to admit that without the original husband the charm is lost. I so wanted to like this show. I hope Nia gets to do a sequal (movie, not show) at some point.

I never saw the tv show, but I think it would be too similar to Everybody Loves Raymond, you know, embarassing family in close proximity to couple with lotsa funny little jokes. Let me also take this chance to praise and uplift Everybody Loves Raymond, there should be a law making everyone watch it every night, also Seinfield, and ABCs Rollercoaster, lol.
