So you think Willis did the bearded scene before or after the main plot?

I've always got a thing for those details, like probably Ethan Hawke did the crewcut undercover junkie flashback in Assault on Precinct 13 after the main movie, and Pacino started with his beard in Serpico and shaved it down as they shot the plot in reverse.

I was thinking the beard was fake. It may have looked authentic, but I thought it was fake.

Before, he would let it grow before the shooting starts, they shoot the first scene first, then he shaves it all off for the rest of the movie. It would take the least amount of time instead of waiting for it to grow in the middle of shooting.

It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.

It would take way too long to grow a beard that full after a film had finished just to go back and film one scene. It would have to be fake. Mens beards can take different lengths of time to grow and if his grows slow it could be over a month.

He would have grown it before filming started and shaved it off.

I have a bushy beard myself. That looked real to me. I think the comb was a neat touch.

I can and have grown my beard like that in a month, tops.

fast growth. I have many friends(grown men) who can't grow a beard like that at all(and most men can't,just look at Depp, Pitt, Cruise etc, their real beards(the Tourist for ex was fake beard) are thin and not filled really, few hair follicules.
And many who can take much more than a month. I myself can grow out a beard like that in 3 months, not less. The longer it gets, the slower it grows too ofcourse. But after 6+ months I can have a really big beard. But to get Willis beard in this movie ,it takes me probably 4 months.(with good nutrition to support the growth obviously)

He did that scene definitely before ,since if you are into filming dates, then this film was filmed right before Willis started on ''Sin City'' in march 2004. ''Hostage'' started filming on jan 19th 2004. For a beard like that a few weeks would not be nearly enough and he had no beard in ''Sin City''.

Also,he filmed his scenes for ''Alpha Dog'' in november 2004 ,with his hair, went on to have the same hair when started filming ''Lucky Number Slevin'' on dec 7th 2004 right after. That film wrapped in feb 2005, and then he did the promotional stuff for ''Hostage'' and ''Sin City'' in feb-march, in april-june 2005 filmed ''16 blocks'' and in jan-march 2006 filmed ''Perfect Stranger'',followed by ''Die Hard 4'' in sept 2006.

In march-april 2007 he did his role in ''What Just Happened''.
In august 07 filmed his role for ''Assassination of a High School President''.
In april 2008 filmed ''Surrogates''.
In may 2009 started work on ''Cop Out''.
In january 2010(the future when you originally posted this thread) started filming ''RED''

And since late 2010 till late 2012 he acted in 11 movies, impressive workaholic regimen kicked in I guess.

in September 2010 he filmed for ''Cold Light of Day''
In October-nov(anyone?) 2010 filmed for ''Setup'', the 50 cent produced filmed.

In November-december 2010 filmed ''Catch .44'' role, a 50 cent(?) produced film.
In January 2011 filming his role for ''Looper''
In April 2011 started filming ''Lay the Favorite''

In may-june 2011( probably rushing off the set of ''Lay the Favorite'' into it) filmed his role for ''Moonrise Kingdom''.
(which wrapped on june 28th 2011)

on june 27th 2011 onwards filmed his role for ''Fire with Fire'', a 50 cent produced film.

In august-sept 2011 filmed for ''G.I.Joe 2''.
In nov-dec 2011 filmed for ''Expendables 2''
In april-august 2012 filmed ''Die Hard 5''

In sept-nov 2012 filmed ''Red 2''

In dec 2012 filmed his part for ''Sin City 2''

lots of sequels the last couple of years for him.

I think the hair and beard was fake. It was very well done, though.
