Way too much screaming.

This movie seemed to go overboard with the explosions and fire visuals, I guess making up for other shortcomings. It felt the same way with the screaming. I mean used effectively screams can do a lot, but go overboard and it becomes annoying.

Um, to state the obvious there was a double hostage situation and hostages are likely to scream in stressful situations.🐭

You do know it wasn't an actual hostage situation right?

This is pretty much why conversation is now usually progress-free and instead just masturbatory fodder by default. a Circle Jerk with no happy ending.

"I mean used effectively screams can do a lot, but go overboard and it becomes annoying." [wow what a crazy statement that is - since overused elements in films are constantly commented on including heavy use of music, gore, FX, costumes, camera effects, production design or even Travolta acting. Each of those aspects are frequently pointed to as being overwrought in cinema. But to say the same issue could exist with screaming - guess that's preposterous.

Strange I didn't have that problem with any Jurassic Park screaming, or 99% of the horror films I've seen, or the 911 movie where everyone was losing their mind. Yet here I found it almost as annoying as someone pretending to be both deaf and stupid, when really they only truly qualify for one of those markers. Kisses.

Yeah, the problem I don't suppose could ever exist with over-wrought, self-righteous OP's imbued with a sense of papal infallibility concerning their misguided opinions.

Again, (ever so slowly) in a film in which the narrative at different levels and different periods, hinges on a variety of hostage situations (two, involving children) and in which, IMO, Ben Foster gives an outstandingly creepy performance as teen villain Mars, I don't think it's unreasonable that there be a few screams. I can honestly say they didn't seem over-abundant, or out of place to my ears. In this case, I think I can honestly add, that I really don't feel your pain.🐭

and I could absolutely be a 1000x wrong about this - though I suspect other threads about how annoying the kids are reflect the same sentiment - but I still say the subject matter here just barely warrants over-usage of the effect. And it's also a function of what sounds annoy specific individuals.

Agreed - esp that dorky little kid.
