Paul did sleep with Louis Aurnult

Seriously the clues are there ...when Paul is arguing with Louis' girlfriend and he starts talking about the way in which he cuddles people and tells them nice things and she says "you speak as if you"... and she realizaes that they had been together (Louis and Paul) and there are lots of other clues I mean Louis was tooo persistant when inviting him somewhere and why did he took Paul to the showers...I mean Louis knew and flirted but didn't admit it and then when he realizes Paul was dating the arabian guy he can't hide the fact that he is jealous then confessing him that he felt something too and I believe that it's true what Paul said that Louis got drunk in order to sleep with him because Louis felt embarassed about what he felt but couldn't hide it anymore and in the end he run away

Hmmm, now I'll have to watch this again.

Was Paul saying that Louis coming home drunk was AFTER the argument on the bridge? I assumed he just made it up to screw with his girlfriend.
If you are right, then it REALLY explains why Louis sent his girlfriend up to get his stuff afterwards.

I dont' think some of your other evidence proves that Louis slept with Paul or that he was in love with him. (Nor does it disprove it.) The reason being that your examples happened early in the movie prior to the alleged sex.
It shows that Louis liked playing with people. Louis dragging Paul into the showers, and then ignoring him, seemed to be to keep Paul on the line like a fish. He kept tugging the line to play with a toy. When he discovered that Paul got tired and went off for something real, he exploded and made up the story about the stabbing to break up Paul and Mercir. Louis had to be the nexus and when one of his satelites broke away he had to do something to bring it back. Then, when Louis knows that his shorts aren't enough to keep Paul interested, he decides to get drunk to raise the game to another level.

Unless we watched different movies, I seem to recall that Paul himself tells his girlfriend Agnès that he had had sex with Louis-Arnault. I don't think he was lying to her!

Louis-Arnault was certainly furious when he senses that Paul is with Mécir. He says, really nastily: "It's not enough that you steal my underwear, you also have to sleep with that ??"

Why the anger and jealousy?

Because none of these people is able to be up-front with their longings, except Mécir. He says, at all times, exactly what he feels and wants. Mécir 's chain represents freedom to Paul.

I like that: a liberating chain.

I thought he was lying when he said he slept with Louis--to free himself up for Mecir. (Disclaimer: just seen it once.) I also thought that Louis was a tease, but wasn't gay, so when he realized that Paul was really gay (in the shower room the last time when he saw Paul "not looking at people" and then reaching up to touch the wet swimsuit) the "dime" dropped and he realized that he Paul really was gay.

I also thought that Louis was "just" racial profiling when he thought that Mecir's brother was the one that stabbed him--not "unreasonable" for someone to be irrational and jumpy just after getting stabbed. And, it was lucky for Mecir's brother that he ran and got away. At least in the pre-DNA days, he would have been in a lot of trouble otherwise!

I thought, at the end, that he was heading into town to see Mecir. Lying about being with Louis freed him from his obligation to his girlfriend. It seems pretty clear that he was headed toward dropping out of school and (eventually) pursuing something "literary" rather than an MBA-type career. And Mecir could fit into that scenario one would think. But, I just seen it once.

I had a little bit of trouble, in this age, with Paul figuring things out (ie., coming out) as an MBA-type student. But they emphasized that he went to a very "provincial" college in the South of France somewhere, so I guess its possible.

I thought this was a very good and interesting film. Great "naked" eye-candy scenes and enough loose ends to make it interesting. I'm tempted to buy it because I think I will end up watching it a bunch of times.
