Third Series in US?

Netflix has the first twelve episodes available and so does outlets like Amazon, though I do see that you can purchase the DVD for the third season/series overseas. Is there a date for the U.S. release?

reply

I haven't been able to find any release dates for it. I don't think a dvd from another country would work on US dvd players. I wish Netflix would get the third season!

reply

Yeah, I don't think the UK release would be adaptable. To be honest, I thought the show went a bit downhill and looking at the plots, I wonder if I would actually like the last season! But, if it came out, I would take a look at it.

Next up: the long wait for the next season of Doc Martin!

I liked the show so much that I bought a set of all three seasons in the Region 2 format (very reasonable on e-Bay) and ended up watching season 3 on my computer. Someday I will get a region-free player, they aren't that expensive either.

I live in the U.S. and watch DVDs on my computer as well but wasn't sure if that was adaptable to my system. If you live in the states, does Region 2 format run normally on most computers?

Hi, Below is what the Help Menu says about what my Mac iBook G4 can do with OS 10.4.11. I don't know what the case will be for other Macs, another Mac OS or for nonMacs.

DVD-Video playback is normally restricted to one of six geographic regions. DVD-Video discs can usually only be played with a DVD player whose region matches the disc's. Apple's DVD solutions allow you to set or change your DVD drive's region setting up to five times. The last setting is permanently locked into the drive. When changing the region setting for the last time, you must use a DVD-Video disc approved for play in one region only.

DVD and VHS players that will play multiple regions are not expensive

reply

The same is true for my PC. 5 changes, no more, unless you know how to hack the system. An all region player will handle it and are reasonably priced, though I've only seen them online. However, I'm not sure if they compensate for PAL format or not. Region 1 discs are NTSC format. I have some discs that are region free, but were duplicated from PAL. There is a slight playback problem (on my dvd player), in that it very briefly starts and stops. It's not too distracting and is more obviously visible in long shots, rather than close-ups. After a few minutes you don't notice anymore.

You don't have to change the region setting on your computer to watch DVDs from outside of your region. All you need to do is play them using software that supports all regions. Download the (free) VideoLan Player (aka VLC Media Player). It will play DVDs from anywhere in the world, without changing the region setting on your computer.

I loved the series so much, I bought season 3 online from the UK and downloaded a WMV player from a friend from Austria which will let you change from one region to another. I know some thought the ending was unsatisfactory, but that standard of quality is so hard to keep up. I thought it ended well enough, although I was disappointed in one area. I liked William and Mary a lot more than Doc Martin, mainly because I like the character of William so much more than the Doc, but I would be interested in seeing another year of that series as well.

Well, there is a legal reason, in that there are different distribution rights in different regions and countries. Also, those torrent sites are violating the copyright of the work, depriving the creator of the rewards for their work. On the one hand, I would like complete access to a work I enjoy, but I also believe that the creators are entitled to their just monetary rewards for their work. Of course, once you get conglomerataes involved, the "just reward" factor can get out of hand.

Hey,

I live in the US and just ordered it from Amazon in the UK. It cost about $17.00 with shipping and Amazon does the money conversion for you so you know exactly what you are paying. It took two weeks to get here, also if you already have an amazon account you just go to the Amazon UK website and log in using your US id and pass. Remember that the disk will be region 2. So here is how to watch it legally:

You can buy a region free DVD player anywhere from $40 on up on Amazon US. This is especially worth it if you are a fan of Brit Shows because I order shows all of the time from Amazon UK that aren't available for the US so the DVD player has paid for itself in a lot of ways.

I have provided some links for your reference. Enjoy. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Since that time, Amazon added it to their video on demand service - $2.99 per episode, or $15.99 for the season.

Check out Acorn TV - it has all three seasons, plus dozens of other first rate British shows. Price is $50 a year with the first month free. I receive through my Roku, but you can also view on my computer.
