did they cut the movie short? ** spoilers**

Spoilers follow.

Just wondering if anyone else thought they rushed the ending..?

Taped it from RTE (An irish tv channel) and watched it this afternoon july 28th 2007.

I agree with some of the comments on here re: how some things, like the mental illness was handled, but, I actually liked it. I thought it was very witty in places, but the ending got me. I was shocked at the end...in a "WTF. is that it?" sorta way.

It's as if they spent 99.9% of the film, slowly developing the characters and bringing us along this slightly wacky but engaging journey...and then wrapping it all up at the end with a "that's it. The End. by the way...they all lived happily ever after.".

Anyone else wondering if the marketing guys cut it short?

i.e. in the trivia section, it mentions that Kilmers character as the drill instructor character was fleshed out as the movie was being made...which is all well and good, but, I didn't think it added much to the movie, to be honest...he was about as significant to the story as the smoking nurse character who circulated the mail in the military hospital close to the end of the movie.

It's as if they sacrificed the ending to squeeze in more Kilmer.

Am I wrong...or has anyone watched the DVD with directors comments on how everything wraps up so suddenly at the end?

I totally agree with you. It ended and I looked at my husband and said "that's it?" And they spent so much time on Val Kilmer that I kept thinking he had more to do with the plot and maybe he was going to show up later in the movie again.

i JUST finished watching this movie seconds ago. The only reason i logged in here was to see what was up with the ending and it looks like others where surprised by this sudden ending. I have absolutely no idea what they went this this kind of ending.

I think the sudden cut ending has something to do with what is said in the beginning of the movie. The movie opens up with Tucker's character's voice over talking about military medical records not telling the whole story and giving you no ending.
