did they cut the movie short? ** spoilers**
Spoilers follow.
Just wondering if anyone else thought they rushed the ending..?
Taped it from RTE (An irish tv channel) and watched it this afternoon july 28th 2007.
I agree with some of the comments on here re: how some things, like the mental illness was handled, but, I actually liked it. I thought it was very witty in places, but the ending got me. I was shocked at the end...in a "WTF. is that it?" sorta way.
It's as if they spent 99.9% of the film, slowly developing the characters and bringing us along this slightly wacky but engaging journey...and then wrapping it all up at the end with a "that's it. The End. by the way...they all lived happily ever after.".
Anyone else wondering if the marketing guys cut it short?
i.e. in the trivia section, it mentions that Kilmers character as the drill instructor character was fleshed out as the movie was being made...which is all well and good, but, I didn't think it added much to the movie, to be honest...he was about as significant to the story as the smoking nurse character who circulated the mail in the military hospital close to the end of the movie.
It's as if they sacrificed the ending to squeeze in more Kilmer.
Am I wrong...or has anyone watched the DVD with directors comments on how everything wraps up so suddenly at the end?
