How gruesome is this movie ?

I've read the good reviews about this film and the actors but what i need to know If i will be able to bear watching those gruesome scenes. How long are they ? I get really sad for characters when something awful happens to them , and i want to know if I will be able to see this film.

Extremely gruesome. I myself couldn't watch those scenes they were so horrible. I just shut my eyes and covered my ears. I know it sounds like I was acting like a child but I can't bear seeing monstruous things heppen to characters either. And after seeing the movie I burst into tears every time I remebered it for a couple of days.
But still worth watching, though.

I saw it on the telly last night. And frankly, I literally felt sick. Especially towards the end, and I think those of you who have seen it know which part I'm refering to. I won't give anything away but the some scenes are very graphic and very cruel.
I still think it's a must see though. Great acting performances from everyone, both the boys and the teachers/priests. Just keep in mind that it does get ugly.

In my opinion, this is a movie where men may end up crying having seen it, but parts of the film are very uplifting too, and the overall feeling one is left with is a sense of angry outrage. It is powerful and there are three or four very gruesome scenes of child-abuse, but the comeuppance moment where Quinn's character strikes Glen's in revenge actually made me ecstatic, if that's not too strange to relate. If given a choice I'd definitely opt to see it and be moved, it feels very real but it is only acting I can assure you as I visited the set and no children were harmed!

^ Very well put. It is very gruesome in a about 3 scenes but Aidan's revenge scene had me cheering him on. I'm glad that even though they were so grafic on the abuse scenes, they didn't hold back when it was an adult on adult beating. I'm glad they made it brutal and realistic. I would have done the same damn thing. Even if I had only heard there was a priest abusing boys and the school had nothing to do with me!
