Nice, Cool Film, Even if 'Borrowed' or 'Flawed' :)

I really liked this film and found the plot quite satisfying. Besides, if this movie stole everything in it's plot from other films (which it didn't), then some of those same critics are such bullies about it that they miss a very, VERY important point about this film and *all* others: When it comes to plots, there truly is "nothing new under the sun."

As an astute poster pointed out, "The Matrix" itself borrowed many plot parts from Japanese and other Asian films. What takes place in "Returner" is not "just like Matrix" at all -- the genesis of the slo-mo is completely different in both films.

Any film professor worth his/her degrees will tell you: at the root of all movies is a plot that likely dates thousands of years. Even Shakespeare borrowed heavily from the ancient writers and philosophers such as Homer, Plato, Sophocles, and some of those writers go back as far as 4,000 B.C. Ideas came from everywhere, from any of the world's best known holy books, to writers as diverse as Mozart or those who wrote librettos for him.

Sure, "Returner" had rough edges; I've seen better special fx and matte incorporation, but other than that, there were enough original plot turns in the film to keep it entertaining.

I saw the subbed version, so I can't address the issue of the English dub nor the quality of it's performance, but in some cases I prefer subs to the dub actors who spend so much time trying to match the foreign-language lip-movements that they deliver the lines in an odd, stilted way.

"Returner" is far less predictable than so many posters here seem to suggest. It has plenty of plot twists along the way. One critic on this board bemoaned the fact that this movie had earned very close to a "7" rating from IMDb members, and wondered aloud 'HOW' and 'WHY' it could earn a rating *that* high.

Well it's certainly not a conspiracy, nor a fix -- obviously many people think that while it's not a "Star Wars" or "Matrix," it still has enough action and entertainment that a lot of people simply like the film! See it through, and you just might like it too :)
