So, how many victims?

So, in total how many victims has Ramon killed? Including Laura, is it 19 or just 3 (Laura, the old lady and a girl whom Raman has mentioned)? I think it was just 2 except Laura, as the other ones seemed set-up (same shirt etc.). What do you think?

reply

Definitely 19. He needed that o make it look like he was a serial killer. Dont know why he said it was only 3 though.

It couldn't have been 19. He said himself to her and to the police that he made the serial killer story up to scare her. She points out the little mistakes in his story. To which he replies that he built in the little mistakes intentionally because he knew that she would spot them. He did that to give her false hope and then scare her some more. The police contacts the makeup artist and confirms the story that the photo of one victim is a fake. He really killed just the mother and his ex-wife.

reply

What about all the newspaper clippings of the murders on the wall? They all matched up with murders he "created"

reply

ooooh, so it is impossible to hire an make up artist and to kill 19 people, ok.

it could very well be 19 people he has murdered. if he has done so much to bluff everyone out, even Inspector Sanchez, why not kill 18 people before Laura?
also, where came the video tape and the polaroid from? an anonymous person, it's all him again, because no one else than Laura (or possibly his mother, too) knew about everything he did, so how did the tape come out of his house?
so that those evidences came to the police where another trick by Ramon to fool everyone, because that way the police would think Laura might be the person who sent them the material.
it's all one big plan, he kills 18 strange people before he kills Laura, so it doesn't get too suspicious, he said that already himself. but just to make up this whole story to be able to not get caught is extremely absurd, so maybe he has a chance.

the only thing that could falsify my theory is one of his last sentences, when he remembers how he murders his mother, something along this line: "they almost had me". so, why would he say/think that, when he planned it all along to get questioned.

reply

I don't think he killed anyone else besides Laura and his mother. He's not a psychopath.. he killed Laura for revenge and his mother to keep his secret. The rest were all a set up...

reply

I have to agree after one viewing...

His own mother and Laura. The rest is part of the game!
I really enjoyed the answering machine recording!!

reply

Where did the answering machine message come from? Was is a combination of the recordings he'd made? Other than that I'm pretty secure with the plot and really want to love this movie.

EDIT: nvm, just flipped through a few scenes again. I forgot where he made her read from the book.

reply

yeah, only two, Laura and his mother. The two women that ruined hi slife.

The answering machine message was spliced from lines Laura spoke in the course of the basement scene. One presumes Ramón made the call from Laura's cell phone, playing a tape he had constructed.

the movie is terrific, I like the way they're 'twisting the twist' :) Solid 8/10

I sure wish you would have put "SPOILER" in the title of the thread.
I was going to watch it, but now feel cheated and that it would be pointless.

reply

It shouldn't be necessary to put a spoiler tag in the subject line. The title itself should make it obvious enough.

reply

Not really. I just stumbled here after seeing a preview for the movie and was trying to disconcern whether or not this was a psychological movie, or a blood and guts movie.
Most people will alert when they have a spoiler in their thread.

reply

Impossible to know, but I think there could've been more, since he was so meticulous. While he wouldn't have motive to kill others, he did prove to be a sick twisted individual. www.poeticmotherlover.com
