Message on answering machine?!

How.. ? He got that message on answering machine that got him covered but how did he managed to record it? Did he cut/paste the whole msg from that recording that he started at the basement and never turned off? I don't think so becouse she's using some phrases that was not spoke by her before.

Notwithstanding the movie was good.
What I liked to most is that similar subject matter to Fyodor Dostoevsk's Crime and Punishment.

Hm, I think he actually DID cut/paste the message. But he didn't need Laura to speak whole phrases, for one sentence consists of single words. He just had to create the phrases for the answering machine of Lauras particular words.
To commit the "perfect murder Ramon strained himself for a space of time, so the detail-work (turning single words into phrases) isn't soooo exhausting as it seems, is it? :)

reply

yes, he did cut & paste; & yes, she did use all the phrases previously in the movie.

This is the scene upon which the story hangs, and, in my opinion fails as the last half hour of the film dribbles off from what was a very well executed initial setup. Two problems: If we're to believe the message is a 'word chain' cut and spliced from their encounter, some of the phrases just weren't uttered on the phone tape as they were in reality. Prime example: when she tells him to 'go have a wank' it is nearly whispered, whereas the answering machine reproduces it as normal tone conversation. Also, even, if we can, in retrospect, force ourselves to imagine a man so obsessed he'd go to the lengths in a couple of weeks to become a studio-quality sound engineer, we, as spectators ought to have had this pre-meditated 'coup' spelled out a bit more. I'm dumfounded that in the course of all the exposed ruses and subterfuge that we learn about regarding our villain, there wasn't at the end at least a short flashback of him with the recorder putting those words together. Such an ending IMO is much more interesting than watching Laura die at the end which could even have been left out. Or maybe they did film such a scene and it was dropped for any number of reasons. Anyway, I loved the huis clos atmosphere, shades of Strindberg, but the direction brought it down at the end. Still pretty fair first attempt by an actress turned directress.

***SPOILER ALERT***
Thank you! I was so disappointed in this movie for just that one, little element. The rest was brilliant and well on it's way to becoming my new favourite, "Have you seen this?" flick. But WTF? You can't just conveniently slip in a piece of evidence that exonerates the lead without any explanation. What a shame that Laura Mana didn't have the forethought or directional fortitude to see the story through to a believable ending. It could have been a 5 star film. Instead I give it 2 stars, and that solely on the sensational efforts on the part of the cast, the DP and the set designers.

Good for you, Barbie

I may have missed something, but the police also trace the call on the machine to Laura's mobile.....I guess it could be a recording played through, but come on.....still, Killing Words, a good effort for sure
