Why do 3 of the hits don't count I'm just curious because I've never heard of such a thing were nearly a decade after a milestone was set that a person went back a realized that uh oh x number of hits/homeruns/strikeouts etc... don't count.

shareI believe the official MLB record keepers also changed Ty Cobb's record as Rickey Henderson approached the career walks mark. Record keeping in the early part of the century wasn't done as well as today, so it's a little dubious that a more recent player would have his totals so closely scrutinized, but if they say the mistake happened early in his career, or find that (for example) a hit and an error were awarded on the same play by mistake, it's believable.
