what the heck is this?

it seems likes it's from england i'm guessing, but all the other posters here seem to be big fans of it

The Magic Roundabout was a popular stop-motion animated children's tv show during the 60's and 70's. It was filmed in France, but aired in France and England, hence all the English fans (like my boyfriend!).

>>If you can work out how they're going to turn an episodic, fragmented and slightly mental cartoon series into a feature film, let me know.<<

By turning it into a sort of U-certificate Tomb Raider/Indiana Jones knock-off, by the looks of things.

"Excellent - can't wait. Ermintrude and the Temple of Doom?"

Have you seen the trailer? You're not that far from the truth.

This does look pretty nuts, I remember the original thing being so increibly chilled out that I'm now sure the writers were on the grass, not a lot ever happened but it was still amusing and uplifting. TO me this new version seems like they're on speed, explosions, dragracing ? It seems to have an overinjection of adrenalin and crazy stuff like volcanos that never happened in the original and I dont think thats its going to be any the better for it. It was like a tranquil pleasent oasis of calm and now it is like Indiana Jones, why does the film industry have to keep disfiguring my childhood memories ?

Yes the original TV series (&remake) was laid back, but the original spin-off film, Dougal and the Blue Cat was pretty scary and had its fair share of dramatic moments. The trailer hints it may be closer to this than the series, albeit with updated effects. I want to love it, but just know I'm going to be disappointed!

When the BBC got hold of the French made Magic Roundabout, they weren't supplied with the scripts - They literally had to guess the plots from watching the footage and write their own.

Buddism ?!? Where does a guy who weighs over 500 lbs get off on preaching about self-discipline?

Indeed, the rumour is that the French version was actually a very adult political satire cartoon, although personally I sincerely doubt it.

Workshed!

You're right! It wasn't... It was purely a childdish serie. When it came to england, it became more... Well, you lnow : mad! And I liked it! We tried to keep both ambiance on the movie, without destroying the whole thing in the process. The first target of the movie is still children... But there is a lot of things for the adults also...

Slightly mental adventures of several kids, a talking dog, a snail, a pink and purple cow and a... half spring... half man blokie called Zebedee. Essential teatime viewing for kids and now resurrected as cult stoner classic.

Closest thing in America would be any of those utter barmpot Krofft series. I do remember waking up very hung over one morning in Nashville to find my friends religiously watching a kid with a talking flute conversing with a dragon and some kind of giant phallic orange mushroom. Pretty disturbing if you didn't know it's HR Puffenstuff..

I saw the trailor yesterday at the cinema and it looks quite good. I don't see where there should be a problem. It's got a good strong British cast and the plot's not that bad.

I'm only 16, so I can't appreciate the Television Series as much as generations older than myself... But I can definately say that I'm absolutely disgusted at this Movie.. The Way they've Animated:Why? I think it would be acceptable if they Computerised the Characters... But they've tried to make them appear more realistic..I don't like it at all!

And.. Just because 'The Magic Roundabout' was never shown in America, Canada etc. Why have they put 'Sprung!' in the Title (Okay..Because there's the lean on Zebedee and Zebadee).. But couldn't they have just left it the same! Grrr!

I agree with the comment of a Strong British Cast...And It makes me wonder why they've even agreed to DO the film in the first place! Great Cast though, Except for Robbie Williams- What's that all about?
And Kylie Minogue- Why? From the clip on the Trailor - You can't even tell it's her!
