My kids LOVE this movie!!!

We are wearing out the DVD, on our 5th time seeing it. 4 yr old and 16 month old will sit through the entire movie and then ask to watch it again. The more we watch it, the more we WANT to watch it. We are American and had never heard of The Magic Roundabout before Doogal was released here. But I can see how these characters have captured generations of young and old kids.

That's great. Have You also watched the first episode of the original series? There You can see how the characters were in the beginning. And just for Your interest: Also watch the bit showing some scenes from the original original in French. Again a totally different story.

Yeah, I saw the first episode. I was really thrilled they included it and the others. All of the extras on it are great. OK, I'll watch in French. I have to admit, I am becoming a full blown Dougal enthusiast.

reply

Being a full blown Dylan enthusiast, let me welcome You in our circle. ;o)

Thanks. Dylan is my daughter's favorite too. He would probably be mine too if I didn't already have a soft spot for little spoiled doggies (having a couple myself).
The french one is cool, but it sounds like they are always yelling. Dylan is a lot more motivated when he's French. My daughter was like, "Mom, why is Dylan speaking spanish?" Too funny.
It sucks that Mr Blue Sky is not on the soundtrack. I wonder why. In my opinion it's the best song in the movie.

reply

Mr Blue Sky really is a cool song (though the film's version of 'You Really Got Me' is waaaaayyy cooler *g*), no idea why they left it off the CD. Thank god I have it though.

I had a guinea pig who looked pretty much like Dougal, fur-like. He was called Rincewind, but I probably would've called him Dougal (''Dougy'') yet. I absolutely love all of them, even Train and the Moose (as long as he is neither speaking nor farting o_O).

In the French version, Dylan sounds a little hysterical to me. But that might be the language. I prefer him laid-back. ;o)

Yeah OK, You Really Got Me is pretty good too. I kinda want to get a Robbie Wiliiams CD so I can hear Dougal sing (I know, I'm a dork). I guess i've been living in a box the past few years because I had no idea who he was. Any suggestions on which album is best?
I used to have guinea pigs, come to think of it they do sort of resemble Dougal. They are so cute. Well the next little dog I get will defenitely be called Dougal. Maybe a little too predictable but I don't care. I will probably even choose the dog based on how much it looks like him. I think I'm bordering on obsession.
I agree, Dylan is much cooler laid-back. He does seem hysterical in the French version. Do you know if they released the movie in France? I think I read somewhere that they did. If so, I wonder how the characters are in that one since they seem to have completely different personalities over there. It would be neat if they ever offered it with English subtitles.

reply

You're living in america? No wonder You don't know Robbie. As far as I know he's nearly unknown in Your country. Funny enough a Canadian told me that in Canada Robbie Williams is quite the megastar he's over here in Europe. I'm not exactly a fan, but he is for sure the best entertainer we've got at the moment. Got some of his albums, so let me think which one is the best... ''Sing When You're Winning'' contains my favourite tune ''The Road To Mandalay''. His new one ''Intensive Care'' is also quite good. But, hey, now that I think about it, he's got a Greatest Hits album out already, so You should take that one. It contains all the good stuff.

I know what You mean about being obsessed. I nearly bought a rabbit because it was brown with a grey beard to his cheeks and looked a little sleepy, just like Dylan. Thank God I'm so hopelessly devoted to guinea pigs that I could resist.

Yes, I also wondered about the French characters. They seemed to be totally different. The British version is way more laid-back. Better for children as a goodnight story I think. But maybe that's one of the reasons that French are using their hands so much while talking. ;o)

I think you're right. I guess a couple songs of his were popular here a while back, though no one I know could tell me which ones. But I'll try to get his Greatest Hits. Thanks.
You should see all the Dougal stuff i've bought off of ebay. It's really out of control. But it's fun.

reply

Out of control, yeah, I know that. I've got the stuffed Dylan in three sizes (the big one is talking with Bill Nighy's voice), Ermie and Brian in small size (Dougal was sold out), Dylan poster, Dylan talking birthday card, chocolate Dylan from Thornton's which I WILL NOT eat, keychains of all the characters. And I painted Dylan on a flower pot. I know I should see a shrink aobut this. *g*

I have a talking Dylan coming for my daughter. I'm limited to whatever toys are on ebay because toys from stores there can't be shipped here. Stupid!!! It sucks but I'm probably lucky because I'd be broke. If I had any art talent Dougal would be on the walls of every room in my house. People would think, ok, know I'm crazy.

reply

Didn't think about Ebay first, plus the toys were pretty new to the toy market. I had to wait for my next London trip to buy way too much of that stuff on Hamley's toy store. Now that amazon and Ebay do have offers for that I really have to keep myself from the walking Dougal and the singing and dancing Ermintrude. A pity that there's no big Brian. Somehow I liked that brave little slimer.

SINGING AND DANCING ERMINTRUDE!!???!!!! That sound sooo cute. I'm gonna look for that. If they come out with a sequal, there'll be new toys too. Maybe Brian will get his chance next time. The walking and talking Dougal is very cute, but his voice sounds like his batteries are going dead. Maybe I have a defective one, but I'm getting 2 more so we'll see.

reply

It's a pity Dougal isn't talking with Robbie's voice. Dylan and Ermie do have their ''real'' voices. one of the reasons why I could listen to Dylan for hours... Ok, after I couldn't stop him talking first I decided to better settle for audiobooks read by Bill Nighy. Less karate shouts. ;o)

They should've tried to at least get close. Oh well, he's still cute. I just bought the Dylan room guard, can't wait to get him. And I found the Ermintrude, and bought her too. It's kind of pathetic, really, I won't let the kids touch my Dougal stuff usually.

reply

I'm still fighting the urge to buy Ermie. I'm afraid this cow is stronger than I am. :o( However, when my Mom was going with me by car and I ahd the soundtrack on CD, she looked very alienated when she heard Dlyan's and Ermie's duet. (So glad they let Bill sing himself on that and even left that for the US version)

Hey I was reading one of the many books I've bought on ebay recently, and what do I see? Listen,
"Now wait just a tiny little moment!" roared Dougal. "What makes you think you're going to be the announcers?"
"Yes, what...like... what?" said Dylan. "What about me?"
"I don't think we can have an American announcing on British television," murmured Florence.

There you have it, Dylan is American (beside the obvious high, hippy thing). He is meant to have an American accent (no accent). What do you think about that?
I knew I liked him for a reason. :)

Dylan an American? An American with a sexy British accent? And wouldn't hippies claim to be citizens of the world?

;o)

Which book was it, by the way?

You know you've got a point. It just occurred to me that they could have been making fun of him. Oh, that would be a low blow. Damn!! Anyway, the book is Dougal Strikes Again- Temporary Fault.

reply

Who knows. maybe the writer had the origianl Sixties Dylan in mind. Being a complete hippie he might have come from San Francisco or so. Do You own by the way The World Of The Magic Roundabout? It's a book ABOUT the film, the story, the characters. It's written very funny, even a joy to read for grownups.

You know, I'm not sure if I do. It's possible, I'll have to look. I've got this one it's called Zen and The Magic Roundabout, it's pretty cool. Maybe it's the same one, I don't know.

reply

No idea. Looked on amazon and couldn't find that Zen book. Tssss....

you're 17 and have a 5 yr old? no wonder you're so pissed. does the sad story of lilo and stitch bring up some deep feelings that you can relate to? of course you couldn't relate to happy tale of friendship and loyalty, your friends have all abandoned you, right? kids are no fun for teenagers. you have every right to be upset, but take it out on daddy, not dougal.
