Oh dear, poor America...

This film was moderately successful, critically and commercially, in the UK, yet panned by critics and shunned by audiences in the US. At first, I thought it was simply the cultural differences, but then I read that it had been re-dubbed by American actors - a bit pointless, but no reason to seriously spoil the film. Then I read this in Wikipedia:

"The US version also featured narration by Judi Dench and a new storyline made to accommodate multiple pop culture references and flatulence jokes (neither of which were present in the original release)"

FLATULENCE JOKES?!

Now I see. Once again the American film-makers, producers and distributors underestimated the tastes and intelligence of their own people. Oh dear.
