Leprechaun: Back 2 the hood
Well, after waiting since last October, I finally scored a copy of this and I have to say I was not displeased. If you know the leprechaun, you know its not all about horror, but with a lot of comedy added in. If you didn't know, this movie wouldn't appeal to you. Much alike Robert England as Freddy, NO ONE but Warwick Davis could capture the character of the Leprechaun as good as he can. So let's not blame Warwick if the sequels aren't as good as the original is, I mean hell Nothing is as good as a classic. The sad truth about the poor Lep is once a film as been taken from horror and mixed with comedy (much alike Chucky going from "child's play" to "bride of Chucky") It just isn't scary anymore. The leprechaun was all about horror in the first 2 films, then it got kind of stupid. But lets face it, it would have even sucked harder if Warwick wasn't as the Lep, am I right? you bet your *beep* ass I am!
This film, like the rest of them is Not a continuing sequel, but much alike the last film (Lep in the hood) it puts him back in the hood. It starts with him fighting a preacher for his gold. The preacher sends him back to hell to await until someone else finds his unlucky pot of gold. That unlucky someone is a girl named Emily, who is saving up to get into college. Her, her ex (who is now a drug-dealer) boyfriend Rory, and the Moron, Jamie, find the gold and go about the town buying everything up. The Lep appears, wanting his gold ... and wanting "The Good *beep*" since he hasn't had a good smoke in 2000 years. when he int getting stoned through out the film, he is starting up a big gore-fest.
The effects actually were quite good, even for low budget, But were not scary.
Horror- * out of *****.
But that doesn't stop it from providing lots of fun and laughs from good ol' leppy through out the whole movie!
Comedy- **** out of *****.
Overall, this film is the 3rd best leprechaun movie, and is a good sequel in my opinion, it is worth a rent if you have some free time. Just understand you're going to be watching a Comedy movie with gore, not a horror film.
Overall Rating- *** out of *****.
Lets just hope they don't, and if they do make another film, that it moves out of the hood and back to normal places. Personally I think it would be neat to see a prequel, kind of like the start of Leprechaun 2, taking place back in the past to show Leppy when he was in his home of Golden belongings, munching on tatters and ale with his fellow Lep's. It would be like Hobbiton from hell.
