Who needs a remake?

Hi,

I just saw "Kopps" and I loved it. I went on the Internet to find out about a DVD and had to learn, that a remake is being mad with Adam Sandler.

Why?

American Remakes of European movies are almost always awful to the utmost. And I think it is sad, that they can't come up with ides of their own.

Please just stop making these remakes.

Yours,

Ralf

gunhero, this movie is nothing like hollywood. far from it. All the action sequences are parodies of such hollywood movies, and they aren't meant to be good. Bear in mind that this is a comedy. Should you ever watch a serious Swedish film, don't be surprised if the effects are more than "decent". Thats just prejudice.

Josef Fares is a great director and writer and makes low-budget comedy masterpieces (before Zoso anyways), as faraway from Hollywood as possible.

However, yes, Jalla! Jalla! was better, have to agree on that.

The problem with this movie was: they had too much money, so they threw in the unfunny SFX sequences. Otherwise (if they sticked to the plain Sweedish humor, like I hoped) this movie would have been much better.
The US remake wil for sure have an even bigger buget. So they wil have even more and longer SFX sequences. So the movie will be worse I fear.

I don't really have time for this replay but I must do it, ok here it goes..

SuryaVL and the other whiner, just a question to you guys. Do you understand swedish?
Because I personally think you don't do it.

First to the other whiner: You say it is a shallow hollywood movie?
What do you mean? In the Whole film they are making fun of HOLLY WOOD.
And SuryaVL whines about the SFX seqs. What do you think is wrong with them?
When the benny cop throws his gun up in the air unbuckle is pants and put the gun in their and start "shooting"? It's looks very cool, and is totally new and funny as hell.

But like I said in the begining, you MUST understand swedish.
Any american or englishmen can dream about looking on it and only understand the subtitels. Well, I said mine now, replays are gladly welcome.

Personally I'm proud of the Swedish production group that made Kopps. It had lots of humour and the SFX's were only there to support the story. I think that's great. In Hollywood, most of the films lean too much in the special effects (I you know what I mean) and those movies end up getting bad reviews.

I'm a Finn, and Finns understand Swedish. We don't admit it too often in here, but people in Sweden are like cousins to us. Some Finns hate Swedes for foolish reasons, I don't, though... They don't bring Swedish films to Finland too often, but when they do, I'll certainly be there.

Two amazing Swedish movies: F-ucking Åmål, and of course, Kopps. Can't wait to see Lilja 4ever and Jalla Jalla.

I didn't say the movie wasn't funny at all, but I had a much better time with Tillsamans (or however you write that), which is also in Swedish, or Tsatsiki.
And the problem with the SFX is exactly that they aren't as funny as they are intended to be. I know they are intended to be funny by being over the top, which they are, but it just didn't work for me.

Well here is one Engliahman (amongst many, I bet) who absolutely loved this movies. We are a nation who appreciate both the underplayed, as well as the tongue-in-cheek, in which both of these qualities this film abounds.

I do not speak swedish, but I loved the characters, plot and presentation of this movie. I do not know what sort of job Adam Sandler might make of the remake, but he has a heck of an act to follow

reply

part of the humor is making fun of matrix and other sfx blockbusters movie.
the money used for hollywood-like effects doesn't conflict with the fact that it's an anti-hollywood movie

reply

Why a remake is made? Because it's the perfect match-up! The terrible Adam Sandler is perfect for a movie as awful as Kopps! Kopps starring Adam Sandler has a fair chance of becoming one of the worst films ever made.

reply

It could be worse. Think about it... It could star Jennifer Lopez/Ben Affleck as "Bennifer" (Benny). And thinking since it's a police-centered movie, maybe the guys behind "Police Academy" could write and direct, and to top it all of, Mariah Carey could sing... maybe a duet with Britney?

Yay :)

Are they Seriously making a remake?
is there any info somewhere, and is there a name of the project?

They, Happy Madison Productions, may have accuired the rights for a remake, but that doesn't mean they're actually making the movie. There's probably a time frame, but they could begin production in like 2010.

http://www.imdb.com/List?production-companies=Happy+Madison+Productions+[us]
As you can see they have three titles in the works for 2005, so the earliest would be 2006.

But then again, there's no real confirmation that any of this is actually true. It seems the source for every article written about a possible remake is a piece in The Hollywood Reporter. You decide if it's true or not =)

I actually thought that Kopps was already a remake. It's just too damn similar to "Super Troopers" (2001), a truly funny movie.

reply

I also thought was a remake from the last wolf http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0400621/
but it seems this one was made one year later...
who knows where the ideas come from and if two different guys can have the same idea at the same time...
I recomend both cause even the plotline is the same, are diferent movies

I'm from Sweden, and enjoyed Kopps greatly, and when I leared that Sandler would remake it, I became kinda angry. Why ruin a good movie?

reply

I don't mind remakes. Some people seem to feel like it's an insult when hollywood remakes a movie but as I see it Hollywood movies are so different from thoose made in Sweden that it's like another medium. It's kinda like being upset about Hollywood making a movie out of a book because they're just so different types of movies.
Sure if Hollywood made a booring movie based on a book I loved I'd say the book was better but I wouldn't be mad about it really.
