Fake Ending?!

a *spoiler*, of course
is it obvious to anyone else that the very ending of this movie was tacked on in post production? it makes absolutely no sense. look at it again, you can see macklin's not even pulling the trigger. not to mention the fact that it utterly contradicts the previous scene, where he asks rennie not to "commit a homicide".
robert harmon, if you really read this board, can you tell us whose decision it was to tack on this ending?

reply

Macklin never directly asked rennie if was going to commit homocide. Macklin never said he was totally against killing this guy. In the end, Macklin saw how evil this man was and he shot him.

reply

Exactly. He realized that he was still a threat and was basically pure evil. Only way to stop pure evil: kill it. Besides, if you were in Macklin's position wouldn't you blow the a--hole away too? It was the only way to put an end to all of the madness. In a way, I think the ending was just an excuse to give Macklin his chance to shine. :)

I bet you liked "Freddy Vs. Jason" too huh?

reply

Freddy vs. Jason was the greatest movie ever made

reply

It was the biggest pile of sh*t since "Bride Of Chucky". I hate movies that make fun of themselves. Freddy and Jason should have retired to the Old Folks Slasher Home instead. The acting and direction were terrible. Even worse, the main audience for those movies were 13 year olds.

reply

how can you say that? i admit Bride of Chucky was bad, i just finished posting about that. But Freddy vs. Jason was such an intense movie, the people in my movie thearter were going nuts.

reply

I don't like movies that make fun of themselves. Both the direction and acting were also very horrible. Effects aren't thing I'm after, the whole package has to work for me to like it. FvJ did not and just insulted me. Time for Freddy and Jaosn to go to the Old Folks Slasher Home. Even Lucio Fulci would call that film a joke if he were alive to see it.

Those "Star Wars" movies are so lame. Give me an old western anyday over that garbage.

reply

And those "Terminator" films are dumb too. I don't like that sci-fi crap. I'm not into special effects being thrown everywhere. I prefer movies that have little to none. I also go for the darker stuff as I grew up with "Tales From The Crypt", "Tales From The Darkside", "The Twilight Zone", and "Monsters". My mind goes for the weirder stuff. Stuff like "The Hitcher", "Highwaymen", and "The Car" suit my style perfectly.

reply

the whole point was the guy was just a sh!tbag that even the good cop was doing a good thing by shooting him in the head. good ending.

reply

It was very justifiable. :)

reply

Justifiable? They had this guy for murder and attempted murder. He was going to be put away for a very long time, that is, if he had survived (he was a complete mess). The ending was horrible. It ruined the movie for me.

reply

The bad guy was down. He was no threat to anyone. Realistically he should have taken him in and put him away for life. But what does he do, he shoots him in cold blood. And probabaly he will be arrested for doing that and put up for murder charges no matter what this bad guy had done. Ending was very stupid.

reply

It was merciful to kill him. Can you imagine being a paraplegic in prison?

I think it could've been a dream or nighmare sequence.

I mean, in the background, you don't hear anyone else. There were officers on the scene, and they would've noticed the wrecked 'Cuda and found Fargo. Plus, did anyone notice that Macklin wasn't bleeding? He was injured when he crashed into Fargo and then into a support pillar. Cray had to help him out of the car, and he wasn't carrying a shotgun.

reply

good point...could be continuity though...the movie is loaded with it...but good point just the same...

"One of these days...one of these days...POW!! RIGHT IN THE KISSER!!"

reply

And in your mind, this makes the ending--"fake?"

reply

It would have made a lot more sense if he shot the killer before all the other police showed up. Suddenly all the other police disappeared.

SPOILERS

I will preface this brief critique by saying that overall the movie was fairly entertaining. I mean what were you really expecting when the plot was about a handicapped ex insurance adjuster running down girls.

But i just want to vent for a sec. How in the world could the bad guy survive being hit by a car and then rammed into another car at a ridiculous speed. Absurd.

Where the hell does the shotgun suddenly appear at the end. I mean it was nice to finally see a character use a gun but why wasn't the shotgun used before that ridiculous ending. And yes it is an absurd ending. The traffic investigator did insinuate that murder was wrong. No way would his character commit murder surrounded by cops. That is nonsense!

Why did the bad guy even get out of the car after hitting Jesus's car anyway. Why not just ram it again? Not too mention how a handicapped man could manage the eldorado in the first place. Also Jesus' can't even catch up to the car while the El Dorado is going in reverse.

But what is even more wonderful is how the lady (lara croft at trade shows) can somehow get into the bad guys car at the end. Did she just run 4 miles in 3 minutes?

There... I have vented.

"Fake"??? Do you even know the meaning of the word? Anyway, I do understand your kind of people who just try to proove how analytical mind they have and can't just sit back and enjoy a movie. There can be various versions of answers to your question but all would say this - He got involved in the whole thing whole-heartedly - he even risked his life while saving the girl in the end - he got injured in the act - There were unsaid things about his character, that he has not done anything meaningful in his life - so when he got involved he went all the way.
