*********SLIGHT SPOILER AT END OF POST***************************

first things first.....
I enjoyed this movie, in fact I enjoyed this movie more then any other jcvd movie...

second thing...
all these post about van damme can't act and he should quit picking up rolls like this...well did you ever stop to think that maybe he likes doing these kind of movies? I mean this is his job i'm pretty sure that he likes these rolls, because I doubt very seriously that he needs the money....

and just out of couristy people who say van damme sucks and that he can't act, how many films have you seen him in? and why do you keep taking the time to post that he sucks, why waste time about something you shouldn't care about?

last but not least was this movie based on a true story if not I really don't see why it was signifcant for us to know that the prison got shut down...

""I don't think Van Damme was motivated at all.""
okay i don't know how you guy live your life and i don't care either..
but how would you feel if you were in his place? you are very away from home, u work at a hard place, your wife is murdered, the murderer doesn't get senteced...
You expect him to have a smile on his face all the time? Energetic and dynamic through the whole movie? His *beep* wife was killed!!! You would be happy if your wife was killed and now you are rotting in jail? *beep* that! He did his job perfectly.

In my opinion, this was one of Van Damme's better efforts. Although portions of the theme are taken exhaustively from other movies, many of his films, usually follows this storyline: Weak guy gets no respect, trains for a couple of weeks (Get huge muscles and develop fighting skills out of nowhere- ie. this film), enters tournament and avenge somebody's death.
This is not his fault but he could have a say in how the movie's plot could have been directed.
I do realised in this film, Van Damme did a 'decent' job of acting and does not come across as a brickwall with two expressions in his inventory.
--Spoiler--

P.S: The moth was meant to be the coup de gras of the plot and was created to add depth and meaning... I guess the meaning of the moth in the first instant, does anyone else find it obvious?

He's not even good at martial arts in real life. Everything looks good because of the camera angles and cutting.

As for his acting, well he sucks, plain and simple. But most of the fans of JCVD (which i will admit, i never knew existed until i came to imdb) don't care, and i'll hazard a guess (and i doubt i'll be wrong much) that these are the same people who like 'pro' wrestling. They know it's staged; they know the hits are fake; yet they still become manic about it.

How can he not be good in martial arts in real life if he has won karate championships? Have you fought him in real life? Geez, stop talking out of your ass.

This is about the worst movie i have ever seen. Ringo Lam calls his movie docudramas, well, if this is docu' or drama, i don't know. But acting, plot and just about everything is wrong in this movie. And why in Gods name does every prison movie have to flash big gay guys around, and they are totally proud of it "heyy!, i can't wait to see ure pretty ass tonight", i mean, gaaawd!!. I didn't have sympathy for any character in the movie, i don't think any character had deserved my sympathy. And what was up with the hideous tranny before all the fights, that made me wanna puke. And that grunt from that Milos dude in the mask, well, we sure got a big laff outta that. Bad bad bad movie. Don't ever do that type of film again, PLEASE!
