Would you consider manson the most controversial music star ever?

I mean come on the guy has been blamed for school shootings, teen suicides, a rise in satanism, he is the self proclaimed antichrist superstar. The list goes on and on. he has p*ssed off every right wing american as humanly possible. I can't think of anybody more controversial than him. I mean for years people have been calling rock stars antichrists and now there is a guy that calls himself the antichrist? He is insane. Which is also why he rocks.

reply

Every decade has its Marilyn Manson.....

And he's far from being insane. Have you ever heard him in interviews? He's different and dares to speak about issues most north american media blatantly ignores.

reply

That's true.

To be equal you have to add or subtract, and I have never liked math

reply

He's one of the smartest people out there, using his music as a way to tell people to raise thier children right. That's his message, that, and a few outer things, he's not a satinist, he's just diffrent, but if you ever listing to him talk, it's crazy, he's just so smart, and know exactly what to say, and exactly what he's talking about.

A.C.

reply

he is for sure one of the most controversial bands.
and he is a satinist. he is a revored at the church of saton. which alot of people ge ttured away by that but i dont care, poeple have there own beliefs.

*beep* The *beep* Off Juggalo Haters!

reply

hes not a reverend in the church of satan, 1 of his friends who is now dead called him that and he just kind of went along with it but in one of his interviews he told the real story

reply

People just don't understand him and his music... I've been a huge fan ever since "Antichrist Superstar" but I still really don't know exactly his angle(s)...

Long story short, we finally have an artist that's not afraid to say exactly what's wrong with the world, and he says what's on his mind, and people don't like it, so labels are slapped on like bumperstickers on a pothead's VW van...

At least he write music about REAL things that most REAL people can identify with...

What I find really scary is some of the stuff all these hip-hop "artists" are saying. Unfortunately, rap and r&b are "in style" right now, but it'll blow over soon enough, much like disco.

reply

i would concider him to be said most controversial music star ever

i do not think it is because of his anti christian stance or columbine (which is a load of garbage) or the way he dresses but because of what many have said he is not afraid to stand up for what he belevs in he is a role model for anyone who feels confined by others beleifs he realy is a great inspiration and role model. especialy if you listen to his songs (aside from the fact that they rock) they have real deep and true messages and opinions in them my favorite truly deep meaningful songof his is man that you fear from antichrist i realy do think it is the most beautifull song ever written its just so bitter sweet

reply

I think I'd have to give that to G.G Allin...

I never did one thing right in my life, you know that? Not one. That takes skill.

reply

Agreed. GG Allin was crazy. Maybe Varg Vikernes was slightly more insane.

reply

I wouldn't say he's the most controversial music star ever, but definitely one of the most controversial music stars ever.

"After all this time?"
"Always" said Snape.

reply

Probably not, as someone else has written evedry age has it's Mansons. I believe he is controversial, but for mostly the best reasons, also as has been written about before. As a Christian I do think he got a couple of things wrong..... but hey i got more wrong so if life's a test i just failed..... who passes?

reply

Ummm no, not even close. I like Manson a lot, but he isn't really that controversial compared to some.

Even Madonna in the 80's and Sinead O'Conner would give him a run for his money reguarding this controversy title. G.G. Allin, Guns n' Roses, Iggy Pop, the Sex Pistols, Jim Morrison, NWA and many others, damn even Hank Williams would give him a run for his money. Many artists have been blamed at different times for things like rises in satanism and teen suicides, Ozzy Ozbourne in his earlier days for example. However, check out these 2 examples of singular music stars that were far more controversial than Manson.

Example number 1 - Sid Vicious

Bassist for the Sex Pistols who could barely even play the instrument, but yet became the single biggest poster boy for the punk movement in the 1970's. His band broke the punk movement into the mainstream view in 1977. Which of course has come to be known as 'the year that punk broke'. Sid became the face and symbol of anarchy. Not only was his band very loudly politically anti capitalist. Which of course struck fear in the hearts of every democratic politician in the world.
The band was so controversial that when their mock 'God Save The Queen' anthem became the biggest selling song in the United Kingdom. It wasn't even listed on the Billboard chart. The #1 song spot was left blank on the chart simply because it was reguarded as so disrespectful, and down right scary to the democratic capitalist way of life that we live under. The band was that feared by the establishment. Sid was also notorious for cutting himself into a bloody mess onstage, hitting people with his bass, and other such live craziness. If that isn't enough for you, he became a severe drug addict, and while he suffered a heroin overdose that killed him. He was awaiting trial for murdering his girlfriend Nancy Spungen. In terms of controversy, I'd say Marilyn looks kinda like Mickey Mouse beside Sid.

Example number 2 - Nikki Sixx

Bassist, founder, and main songwriter for Motley Crue. A band that is still miraculously around today. A much older and mellower version of them that is.

Sixx was was even more famous in the 1980's than Sid was for his violence at live shows. Seeing Sixx hit a person over the head with his bass or break into a fight was common place. I once personally saw him kick a security guard in the head at a live show. The man recieved such nicknames as 'King of the Hollywood Streets', 'Sikki Nikki', and 'The King Of Sleeze' because of his violent and overly sexual behaviour and lyrics. He became known as the loudest, most sexually explicit, craziest, and most violent man in American music. Or anywhere in the world for that matter. Motley Crue and the Sex Pistols became the model for another band that would cause a big stir years later, Guns n' Roses.

Early, early Motley Crue shows were filled mostly with Hell's Angels, drug dealers, drug and alcohol induced sunset strip kids, and of course people from Hustler magazine. Larry Flynt's wife Althea was a huge fan, and Hustler really helped them get launched. Nikki Sixx has appeared on the cover of Hustler magazine 4 times. It almost always sports a woman on the cover. I don't think any other male has ever appeared on it more than once, as it is a porn rag that is dedicated to showing nude women. In the begining no one really thought Motley would amount to anything more than a low level sleaze band. However, in 1983 when Motley released their Shout At The Devil album. They captured the eyes and ears of many other young kids across the world hungry for something more dangerous and exciting than what they knew. As Motley gained more mainstream recognition, a censorship group called the PMRC was unleashed by the government, (Headed by Al Gore's wife) to try and ban or regulate overly sexual and controversial artists. The top 2 targets on their list, Motley Crue and Madonna. Nikki Sixx was one of the artists who took the stand in court for the record industry.
All the while he was spouting off to interviewers across the world things that had parents everywhere up in arms. It was a rare occasion that Sixx could get through an MTV interview in the 80's without telling the VJ to *beep* off and then walking out in the middle of it. Sixx also became well known for lighting himself on fire during interviews, and on stage.

Just an example of Sixx's poison tongue that had parents screaming. Sixx often talked about living a life style that was about living fast and dying young. When asked how he felt about young Motley fans who were being influenced by Motley's open sex, drugs, and alcohol exploits. Sixx replied that the kids didn't have to live fast and die young, they can just watch Motley do it. He went on to say and I quote, "but somebody has to drink all the booze, and somebody has to snort all the coke, and somebody has to go to bed with all those girls...and hey, who better than me?" and their is another version where he jokes about it being a hard life or something. This kind of public talk was common place for Sixx, and had much of the adult world stirring with shock, and the kids mesmerized and laughing.

To break down some of Sixx's other exploits in short.

In 1983 he was temporarly charged with assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon as he struck him in the face with a bike chain. He was about to face at least 6 years in prison when the charges had to be dropped due to a technicality. There was even talk that a threat, and bribery were both a part of the reason Sixx escaped the charge. He very narrowly escape this prision sentence whatever the full truth may be. Sixx then proceeded to dedicate a dark and spite filled song on the Shout At The Devil album to the L.A.P.D. called 'Knock'em Dead, Kid'.

Sixx in the 80's was an artist that openly shared the fact that he did not believe in a god. While writing Shout At The Devil he dabbled with satanist ritual books and multipule people were witness to strange happenings in his house at the time. Including other famous people such as Lita Ford. Reportedly knives and plates and other objects would randomly fly across the house. Strange, but these things were reported at the time.

Sixx was investigated for breaking a police car window and urinating inside it, however they learned of his involvement long after the incident and were unable to prove the charge.

After Motley's lead singer was charged for the drinking and driving that resulted in killing Nicholas Dingley, and also not long after Sixx's assualt on a police officer charge. Sixx thought it would be funny to start playing their own version of Elvis's 'Jailhouse Rock' just to piss people off. They went on to play this song at every live show they played for the next 2 tours. They ended up releasing a live recording of it on their Girls, Girls, Girls album.

Sixx has been charged with everything from assault, to inciting a riot.

In 1987 Sixx's home security company began refusing to provide any more service out of fear. As Sixx would often set off the alarm, and the security company would arrive at Sixx's house to find him stoned and drunk, roaming around his yard with a loaded shotgun.

There are multipule incidents where Sixx was involved with controversial comments about sex with minors. Such as in the song 'All In The Name Of', and in a live radio interview in 1987, Sixx told a 12 year old caller that he liked young girls because he could "hear the bones crack as it was going in". There were also a few controversies with violence toward women. The song 'Live Wire' is a prime example of this. Sixx admitted in the early 2000's that he basically raped an intoxicated woman in a closet at a party back in the early 80's.

Some of his other sexual controversies included banging the wife of Iron Maiden's singer, and crashing his Porchse into a tree while getting a BJ from a Playboy Playmate. During the Theatre Of Pain tour, Sixx had conjured up such tactics as dropping sperm shaped balloons on the crowd from arena ceilings.

Even using the Swastika as a stage prop was a Nikki Sixx idea, long before it was used by Manson. Sixx also wanted to use it in part of an albums liner notes, but the record company absolutely refused and blanked it out. I could go on and on about the exploits of this guy, they are practically endless. At one time Sixx was also an employee at the Starwood, under the infamous gangster Eddie Nash. Even the L.A.P.D. is said to live in fear of this power druglord. He is suspected in the murder of the infamous porn star John Holmes. Watch the film 'Wonderland'. Even apart from Nash, Motley Crue have made no secret of the fact that some of the wrolds biggest drug dealers are their friends.
Today Sixx has tamed his act to great degree and has been sober for many years. He has 5 children now, and is dating Kat Von D, a women about half his age. Motley is set to play the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this summer to a bunch of screaming bikers. Sixx is 51 years old now, but he will always be remembered by many people who lived the 80's as perhaps the craziest musician ever.

It is pretty well known that Sixx was pronounced clinically dead by paramedics in December of 1987 from a heroin overdose. He was revived after his heart had stopped beating for approxamately 5 minutes. If it wasn't for modern medicine, he wouldn't have even made his 30th birthday. So he really did live fast, and die young, just as he often said he would.

Manson the most controversial music star ever? Not even in the ballpark. He's a light wieght in this catagory.

Yet Sixx is not even close when it comes down do the drugs altough he is the one boasting it the most.
He´s like a boyscout compared to Al Jourgensen from Ministry. Check out the soon to be released "Fix"..

And to Mansons account should be taken into aconsideration that he has sold almost 60 Million records to date. That´s only 20 Million than Crue has in their 13 years longer recording career..

Also, during the time 1997-2000 Manson was the most pictured Person on earth. There were more photos of him taken than of any other star, including Michael Jackson..

But it´s hard to say.. Different times, the longer back you go, the easier to shock people..

As Controversial go, G.G Allin was insane most of all but with almost no sales or publicity it´s hard to call him the most controversial.
And if all things were considered the Norwegian Black Metal Founder(Burzum, Mayhem): Varg Vikernes was way worse than all other..

Convicted of one 1:st degree murder (Stabbing friend/Guitar Player in his band 23 times), one 2:nd degree murder, arson of five Churches(But responsible for 10-15 according to other bandmates)and possession of 100kg Dynamite (he was going to blow a Church up)..
Convicted to 21yrs(Norways Max Sentence)
Released 2009.

Your entire post is an epic fail. First off learn how to write. Then learn how to check your facts before you write down a bunch of false *beep*. A good portion of your post is pure fiction. Many of your statements are obviously overly wrapped up in personal opinion, rather than facts.

G.G. Allin at least had a following here and was known by a fair number of people. Varg Vikernes is a non-factor obviously. He has virtually no following whatsoever in North American music. He is not a star at all. If we were going to consider him a music star here, then we would certainly have to consider Charles Manson himself as the most controversial music star ever. He has had music released here and that is at least fairly well known. Even 40 some odd years after his imprisonment, he is probably still even more well known than Marilyn is around the entire world.
