Why are their R+B songs in a Western?

I'm watching this on BET right now, and I am perplexed to hear a musical genre that didn't exist in this mother fu(k!ng time period.

I guess it's just me and you watching this. And why.........it is awful, yet I want to see the end I guess.

reply

yea im watchin it on BET right now also. i guess i missed it yesterday.
anyway they probably had rnb songs because they know that the main audience that this film is goin to attract are african amercans so if they put country/western music in this it would just be even more boreing than it already is.
come on be honest, would yall wanna hear country music or rnb? i personally have to choose rnb because i cant stand country... maybe some rnb with a country twang like Beyonce's song "Irreplacable"... "To the left, To the left"

I stopped watching BET a long time ago, but flipping through channels I couldn't help notice lisaraye in a cowboy hat with a gun. I was like WTF IS THIS?!?! Then after watching it for like 3 mins, and dying of laughter, I had to conclude the entire movie is a farce and total BS. Bob Johnson, I hope you enjoy your millions.

I was thinking the same thing as well. I had a lot of problems with this movie. If you are going to do a movie that takes place in a different time period, everything not only the setting or clothing, but the way the characters express themselves and the music has to take place in that time period. You can not have hip hop or R&B in a Country Western movie in that time period. That is one of the things that annoys me about a few of these movies. The only thing its doing is showing that we can't flex our acting muscles and can't blend in any time period. That is one of the problems that I had with the new version of Cinderella (different movie). I liked the idea that it was a Multiracial casts playing HUMAN roles and no RACIAL. The problem I had was the fact that all the music was not in the right time period. Things like these only create stereotypes that we can't do any movie of a different time period unless we had a little bit of hip-hop or R&B. We have to stop doing that.

This movie could have done a lot better and I feel that we need to show the Entertainment Industry that we are versatile and can do any type of music. We can't stay in a box for the rest of our lives. The longer we stay in there, the harder it will be for us to get certain roles and branch out.

There were rock songs in "A Knight's Tale"...

reply

completely different. That movie was a huge joke, and we will rock you was just an added bit for humor. but nice try.

I'm sure the movie Wild Wild West has the same music...It's just a movie with a today's twist?

reply

I haven't seen WWW all the way through in such a long time, but I'm almost positive that they didn't really use the music in the movie, but the album was really just collective artists singing about the movie. As you probably know, Will Smith and Sisqo did that song Wild Wild West for the movie, but I don't remember it played IN the movie.

Oy Vey! "senator_noc" do you think a town with pretty much all black women (newly freed or not yet free from slavery) were running rampant and dressed so sexily, through a town this way - with the white people as the minority? It's called "FICTION" There are so MANY OBVIOUS things out of place in what might be called "reality" and you focus on the music? Real western music would have been idiotic.

Ha!

Just relax and enjoy a fictional story with a grain or two of salt for goodness sakes!

Nothing new. Watch some of the all-black westerns from the 40's with musicians like Louis Jordan.

I'm watching Michael Moore expose the Awful Truth/I'm listening to Public Enemy and Reagan Youth...
