Would you care if a dog was stuck in a hole?

I was watching the ending of the first Cheetah Girls today, and while I love the ending (in a "cheesefest that I loved five years ago" kind of way), it struck me how ridiculous it is. Yes, kind of a "well, duh" moment, but it never hit me before.

Now, I don't know exactly what would happen, but I live in Queens and visit Manhattan frequently. The idea of that much commotion over a 'dog in a hole' just makes me want to burst out laughing. I mean...dude, it's Manhattan! If I walked by Galleria trying to get Toto out of a hole, I swear I would walk right by to get where I needed to go. Okay, maybe I'd look, but only to stare at Galleria's bright pink track suit, or to see what type of dog it was. Call me jaded, but I would not crowd around a construction site just to see if someone else's dog is okay.

Overall the sense of urgency applied to the situation is freakin' hilarious to me now. No firefighters or officers would freak out that much. And cutting off the power in an entire area of Manhattan?! I might be wrong about this, but if I was a firefighter I'd try to do everything in my power to get around that. Imagine how much money would be lost 'cause of a 'dog in a hole'!

At least they said the news cast was due to finding the cause of the traffic back up, and not just a 'dog in a hole' situation...sorry, I just think that phrase is so funny, lol.

Heh heh! Well, I don't live in NYC, I live in a small mountain town so here a dog getting stuck in a hole would probably be the biggest story and wind up on all the news stations, and people would stop to watch and whatnot. And I first saw this when I was eleven, so I totally bought it without question that New Yorkers were like that (I've never been to New York, I live on the other side of the country). But now that I'm older and a wee bit more cultured, I find it hilarious that a city with enough crimes going on to keep it police force busy forever, they would send tons of backup and news crews to cover something that could easily have been taken care of with, say, one or two firemen, quickly and quietly.
It's pretty freaking funny.

I don't think anyone would care, especially in such a city.
I live in Chicago, and I know for a fact I would keep walking...as would most people.

Well I am a big dog/cat lover so I would stop to see how the dog was doing and if I could do anything to help. But most people are not like that lol, especially in NYC, people aren't rude just busy doing their own thing so if they were in a hurry or something I'm sure they would keep on their way.

All you need is love!

I love cats and dogs also and I to would try to see what is going on and help. I don't know what it's like NYC and if they would stop to rescue an animal out the hole but it does sound pretty stupid when you think about it. Now if a person was down the hole that would be a different story, I guess a dog is a person..perse' you don't want to see a dog die.

Anyone who "lives in the city and wouldn't care" probably wouldn't care anywhere...I grew up in Seattle and I would care about a dog in a hole, but I'm sure there's many people who wouldn't, just as there are people in the country who wouldn't...it has much less to do with where you live and more to do with how nice and caring you are as a person...I help animals in distress, I give people on the street money and look them in the eye when they talk to me, even though "in the city" you see them all the time. Being from the city doesn't give you license to be selfish and heartless...that's just a personality flaw. I have sat in traffic jams more than enough times because some stupid idiot didn't stop for a pedestrian or was driving too fast...I could surely do it for a dog rescue.

I dunno.
I think a lot of the people would probably be drawn to the crowd and the emergency crews trying to figure out what was going on. I think that people would stay at least a few min, especially if you were up front just to see if the dog got rescued. Maybe the crowd was exaggerated a bit, but thats show biz =)

I was in middle school when this came out and remember thinking it was so dumb when Toto gets stuck in the hole. First of all, who even came up with that as a viable way to bring the girls together? Like I guess it brings them together because Galleria is in a personal crisis, but it is really over dramatic and just dumb. And I always found it even dumber when the girls were singing to get the dog out. It's just cheesy.

But it's a Disney channel original movie, so I let it slide. But still has to be one of the most ridiculous ways to end the film. So stupid.

In NYC, traffic back ups happen all of the time, unless that dog belonged to some celebrity or it was a baby trapped in that hole, then that wouldn't have made the news like that.

When i go back and watch this movie it is funny how they made a big deal out of a dog stuck down a hole. Animals are human too I love dogs and cats I would hate to see an animal get stuck in a hole.
