Did you like this movie like I did???

I thought it was excellent. I will try to locate a copy of the novel.

I just watched it and it's very graphic, to the point of being too much.
It sure shows that romanian policemen and prisonguards are the worst of the lot.
Just as I would say that the romanian version of communism was the worst of the lot.

And since I have had some unpleasant encounters with romanian officials in uniform while travelling there during the Ceaucescu rule and also in 1992 after the fall of communism, I'm sure there are lots of romanian policemen patrolling in Hell. That is where they belong.

As for the film it's entertaining if you like watching people suffer.
Romania and its people has had a very tragic history far beyond my comprehension.

Go and see it. It's a film that will have your full attention until the brutal end.

Did you actually watch to the end because the ending wasn't brutal. She survived her term and went on to live a long life. And it wasn't a Midnight Express-style horror story about Romanian prison guards as you seem to be characterizing it. It's a superbly done universal story about an unjustly imprisoned woman who managed to find great spiritual strength within herself, enabling her to not only survive but to uplift those around her. Actually it reminded me more than anything of a John Ford movie in the way that it does great justice to the humanity of the most downtrodden elements of society using an ultra-realistic style that is devoid of false sentiment. Top quality film.

'Go and see it. It's a film that will have your full attention until the brutal end.'

That's my signature which is the standard ending after every comment I make here if it's not totally inappropiate.
'Binecuvântata fii, închisoare' is a very brutal film although with some kind of happy ending.

I gave it a 7/10 - a watchable film and recommended for those who like this kind of movies but the film is also bordering to some kind of exploitation. But what do I know, I never had the chance to visit a Romanian prison.

Oh ok, pardon me. Personally, I found it be very much a universal story and not intended to expose some particular Romanian brutality nor did I find it exploitative. It's about the kind of political oppression that can and has happened in every society to one degree or another, and about the struggle to maintain one's humanity in the face of dehumanizing conditions.
